The moe-bubble bursting (apparently)

What's with all of the sex question threads?
I know this is (in all technicality) a porn site, but could we talk about something else for a minute?
On my mind: I just started watching Clannad, and am considering a petition to demand a higher quality of Moe-blob.

Because they have nothing else to talk about.
And what do you mean by Moe-blob?

I mean that I have seen the light, and with the moe-bubble bursting, now is the time to intervene and stop this generic k-on shit.
(This post may be delayed, I was mid-composure when the power cut off.)

Clannad offers a balanced level of moe in contrast to massive ammounts of drama. That's just how that anime rolls.
edit: wait
What does K-ON have to do with generic animes or clannad?

K-on is an anime with no plot. It is my go-to example of entertainment consisting solely of moe-blobs. Clannad has plot, dramatic teeth (as you mentioned), and a reasonable amount of moe thrown in (even I am weak against it's powers).

These female characters. As you can see, they look very odd and not so beautiful but they actually gather more and more otaku fans these two years. It is remarkable that they are created without any story in any media. It is originally designed for advertising use by a certain otaku products shop in Tokyo. Their design is typically directed through a combination of several otaku elements like green hair, cat ears, rabbit ears, bells, housemaid clothes, school uniforms, a cat tail and large hands and feet etc. You can easily find all those elements in any ordinary anime films. Those three characters are designed by intentionally emphasizing and expanding their grotesqueness.
From an essay about moe and how it's basically just picking elements from a catalogue of elements, making some generic character from them, and watching as otaku obsess over the "character" which is nothing more than a collection of elements pulled from a shared "database" of elements. It's why I can never get into moe stuff, even the stuff that's supposedly "deep". I just see that photofit thing going on, as well the as the "grotesqueness" the guy mentions.
The superficiality of otaku culture is so complicated.

I don't think so - my favorite anime of all time (Keroro Gunsou) doesn't have a real plot, either... or take Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, for example.
Different strokes for different people. I'd rather watch sitcom-style anime than anime with half-assed plots...

Episodic doesn't mean bad, there's just nothing holding it up.
Cowboy Bebop had a rough plot, but it only really happened in five episodes of a thirty episode series.
Otherwise, all the stories are contained. This lack of larger things at work is held up by the depth of the characters (absent in my example), the weight of the themes (also absent), and the quality of the comedic breaks (this is arguable).
The point is that these are full quality narratives. All I saw in the other are half-made ideas, which resolve themselves with next to no real character participation, growth, or exposure.

Or excel saga...whats dat???
one of the most annoying, unfunny anime out there that goes through a bunch of cliche plots to "satirize" them. except it has pedro and nabeshin, the only two good things to come out of it.
i don't like moe, and i dislike when i know something is moe because it makes me feel like a dweeb.

can you make the topic line something more appropriate to the topic being discussed, the name of the thread makes me want to move it to IB.

This thread is 200% on topic. I gave participants one of two subjects, and we chose to discuss the collapse of the moe boom, over the recent sex thread trend.
I am quite proud.
If you'd like, I can change the title.

The "lack of larger things" you speak about is exactly what they tried to achieve with this anime. It wasn't meant to have drama - notice that even before the concerts there is no tension at all. This is all done on purpose; nor ecchi - they clearly proved that you don't need it to make a good anime; nor a complex story.
All in all, they focused on keeping the story light and interesting at the same time (which I think was done perfectly), along with loveable characters and insane animations/character design. And of course, moe is part of the plan.
But to each their own. If you can't enjoy it for that, then too bad. I wish there were more animes like this nowadays.

A fair to good plot, humor and fanservice. This makes a good anime for me.
