This isn't so much a random question but more a random rant on computer repair facilities
I have been having some issues with my laptop and have had occasion to contact these thieves to get quotes
The two latest examples
Example 1
Keyboard had two dead keys
got quote
Shipping
$12 bucks there (me) $25 back (them)
Analysts fee $75
Parts and Labor $125
Service fee $7
Total $244 (I can buy a whole computer for that)
Example 2
DVD died
Went to local Computer repair place
Replacement Drive $75
Labor to install $ 50
I live on a fixed income and squander my money on Food Clothing Shelter and supporting the St Anne's Catholic Home For Pregnant Loli's (really except they have a slightly different name for it)
So I looked around

DVD Player
Found ReMan DVD Burner/Player $40 90 day guarantee Free shipping
Went on line and got instructions for replacement

2 remove screw as shown
3 pull out old unit
4 put in new unit
5 replace screw battery and power cord
Now I am not saying these people aren't entitled to earn a living but. Neither of the tasks outlined are worth much more than $20 labor and the markup on parts is outrageous not to mention shipping costs
What I am saying is If you have a problem with hardware Check out what you can do your self first
Both units came with little screwdrivers to fit the little screws as well as instructions on how to "ground" yourself to prevent static electricity discharge
Neither of these tasks are to difficult for anyone who can tie their own shoes either
Edit there is a 3 year warranty on keyboard from Dell

They reserve the right to charge whatever they want for their service, they're in no way forcing you to use it: You pay for the convenience of not doing it yourself.
Moral to the story save some bucks and learn to DIY if it's a warranty job and the manufacturer fixes it for free, unless it was your fault.

I agree it is their absolute right to charge whatever they want.
However you can shear a sheep twice a year you can only skin them once
I thought I had mentioned that learning to do what you were able was mentioned

Its pretty bad when things like that happen, as I'm an IT techy anyway i'll never have this problem, and the other day I had repaired someone's PC by just simply replacing their power supply and charged them £40 which isnt a lot if you think about it, someone like PC world charge 50 just to look at it then there would be the actual repair bill. I suggest to people to do their research, see if you have a friend of a friend who knows about your computer to save yourself some money, maybe even look for the broken part online for yourself so you know how hard your wallet is gona be hit
