[Locked] Using the Internet as a "STORAGE DEVICE"
0
Soooooo......
I have this idea to use the internet as an storage device...
Ex: you download 1.5g of manga then you upload them in an Uploading site
(Mediafire, megaupload, etc)
after uploading just delete it into your computer... (for space BTW)
Sooo... basically if you want to open the file. just go to that site then download it... just like a back-up device ( only like in the internet)
Advantages:
Storage devices may be lost, destroyed, corrupt, stolen....
Internet cannot be destroyed (probably)
Disadvantages:
(PLEASE TELL ME WHAT COULD HAVE GONE WRONG IF I DO THIS.)
Post in you ideas about this

Nothing wrong with that, except most uploading sites delete the files if they are not downloaded after some time (except if you have premium account, where they are kept permanently)
But it's only good for small amount of data, it's impossible to use to backup a whole computer (except if you're rich.)

Dvd and Exhdd is safer... uploading a back up of a back up might be smart in most cases..

I guess its a cool idea. although the only reason i would do that is for pretty much my desktop's desk folder with everything under the sun that has no were else to be, and often even if it does, anyway i have used media fire for storing some crap.
Its not a bad way to do stuff if you don't care about it being lost/stolen, keep in mind though that its gonna be difficult to do with large(numbers of or size) files/folders, so i would not expect to be using the stuff every day. but for manga and anime you have watched, maybe if you have no where else. hard drives are cheep though.
Thoughts in a jumble, don't get confused.

You'll need very good download and upload rates to be able to do that with your anime. Otherwise, it could take years...
The main disadvantage of using cloud storage is that you can not enjoy your files instantly, but you have to download and wait...
Also, this could be a trouble if you frequently access that data, and one day you want to access it from another network (ie. school, friend's home, 3g laptop) if you have worse Internet connection there.

Spoiler: Storing data on a 3rd-party service via the internet still uses storage devices.
Protip: The internet is not some intangible thing that is kept aloft by magic and pixie dust, it is a network that is reliant on physical devices.

Isn't this just called "Cloud Computing"
EDIT: Sorry i should try to be useful.
The only issue with this is connection speed and the amount of bandwidth that is supplied by whoever you subscribe to.
I personally like the idea of having several copies of my data that is why i keep "images" of my computers on my central server.

Keeping data in the cloud is what everyone is going for nowadays, but I feel it is too soon. Most people do not have the bandwidth and speed to backup that much data (especially now with the caps broadband companies are enforcing), but if you want to try it there ARE some good services out there. The problem is...you have to pay a little bit.
The main one that comes to mind is one called Carbonite. It is good for a full complete back up of your stuff that you can access anytime.
Another one to look into is called Dropbox. I think they have a basic plan that supplies you with 2GB of storage, and the cool thing about dropbox is there are apps for most smart phone OS's.
Honestly though in my personal opinion having an external HDD is probably easier if you plan to view the files you back up on a regular basis. Online backup is great for stuff you do not need regularly, but if you need to get to your stuff fast it is better to have it stored locally.

Actually there are services that specialise in off site back ups. If you're rich you should be investing in that instead.
