VN Issues

I asked something like this as an aside a few months back, but I ran into the problem again recently. I have a few VNs on external HDs and some that are installed on my C: Drive on Windows 7. For some reason a few of them refuse to properly run in full screen, instead staying at window size with a very large black border. For example: Bible Black runs fine as does Princess Waltz, but Cat Girl Alliance and The Sagara Family refuse to cooperate. Any ideas?

Maybe it's not compatible with Windows 7?
A lot of games are not compatible with it, whether they act funny (like the one in your case) or even cannot start at all.

I believe there is a windows xp compatibility mode in some versions of windows 7. If your running windows 7 professional or ultimate, you could try running them in XP mode.

This usually happens for "OLD" games installed in Win7.
Just set your resolution manually to fit the size of your VN max resolution.

I tried the combo platter of Maddog53 and Kaimax's suggestions before posting this. I ran in compatability mode for XP SP3 with several of the other settings (including the "Run in 640 x 480 resolution" opting) but no dice. Don't get me wrong, all of the programs I have so far run, some of them just won't run in full screen for some reason.

You are correct. Some won't run correctly in full screen mode. Just happens by design for most. One other thing I notice however (in Windows 7) games like Battle Moon Wars, for them to run properly in full screen mode you have disable Windows 7 aero mode. This can be achieved by right clicking on an empty spot on your desktop-click "personalize"- then choose a basic theme instead of an Aero one (I use Windows Classics for most of the time when I'm playing VN's).
It is known problem (to me anyway) for some games, but I doubt it will effect the one's you are speaking of, but you can try it if you like and then change it back if it yields no results.

So, at least for the Sagara family, the only practical solution I've found (sort of) is to reduce your screen resolution while you play the game. It will make the game "larger" since your resolution is loewr. You can switch back when you're done.
Still haven't been able to turn off that damn background music, though.

Ok Fall3n, since you did it in my post I feel like I have to point out that you just necrobumped a three year old topic. Fortunately, I can properly revive and CLOSE this by saying that I have fixed this issue.
I now have a new laptop running Windows 8(.1) and an Intel chipset. It has this really nice Intel software that lets me tweak the graphics settings and one of the big things that my old computer had issues with was maintaining display scaling; which this machine lets me do no problem. So go into all of your display settings in the Control Panel and in any software that goes with your graphics card and look for that underlined phrase.
Fall3n, as for the music in Sagara Family, the only place I was able to get the music silenced was in the recollection room. Specifically, the CG and Animation sections. Before you choose which one to look at, hit the stop button at the bottom. For some reason the BGM settings had no effect while I was testing for a few minutes, so I don't know what the deal with that is; but unfortunately this topic has nothing to do with that.

Spoiler:
I apologize for necroing such an old thread, but it was less about necro and more about a recent issue I had that a google search, review of this thread, and review of the sagara game thread did not contain an answer for. After playing around for awhile, I came up with a solution that worked for me and thought I'd share it here and on the Sagara game thread for anyone else who might've been having the issue.
The necro happened b/c I didn't want to create a new topic when one already existed.
Tried your proposed suggestion and it worked beautifully- thank you for the followup.
