Do it yourselves never work with martial arts. I'm just saying, go find a qualified teacher who can teach you nearby, look hard sometimes they don't even have sites. Of course, if your just doing it for the fitness then what kind of martial art do you want to learn?
If your thinking about any grappling martial art just forget about it, you need to practice with someone to learn.
If anything I guess you could do boxing.

I'm not sure, but even if there were it'd be a waste of time.
You'll need professional tutoring.
Let's take my wrestling experience for example. Anyone can look up wrestling moves, but I have applied experience, if we were to go one on one, I would demolish my opponent simply because I have used them before in an actual situation, not by watching and trying to repeat.
Looking up and practicing moves is one thing, applying it is a different story.

I agree, you can't just practice the same things over and over again. You gotta spar and have someone teach you tell you what your doing wrong etc. Of course, if you want there are quite a few youtube videos showing you moves from certain martial arts and google will probably bring up a few. Just name your martial art, I'll try to help. Only for fitness. For actual application, go find a place.
Lol Ikaros, I sucked at wrestling =\ the whole idea of landing on my stomach instead of my back goes against my 2 and a half years of BJJ in which being in the guard is good. Went 2-6 in competition.

Learning martial arts by internet doesn't work too well. A real instructor can correct issues in posture and technique that can lead to bad habits if you learn them on your own. Maybe once you learn one martial art well enough you can try a website, but not until then.

I think you should focus more on which style/type you want to learn, and who and how good the teacher is. maybe even consider moving closer to the place. unless it is just a fitness thing and you really don't care which one it is.
i been looking at akido myself, because it very much suits my personality. it's not an agressive martial art, and i have no intrest in fighting, but i have even less intrest in getting my ass kicked. so it seems like the logical choice for me. from what i've read, the ultimate point is to never have even fight at all.

Yeah, Kung Fu you'll probably have to find a place that will teach you. Cause the form in Kung Fu is very important and someone will fix your errors and you'll learn from those errors. Even though I'm Chinese, I've never done Kung Fu so I don't know how they train but from what I've heard they don't do much sparring but they do do a lot of form work. So it's best to find someone (for the umpteenth time). Not to mention you'll get to meet a lot of new people while doing martial arts.

I agree with having an instructor while learning. A website can teach so much, but training with a live person gives you some form of experience.

It's more or less impossible to learn a martial arts trough the internet. Sure you might be able to get down a few basic moves mot you'll need someone to teach you and point out what you're doing wrong.
Also in my experience training matrial arts usually involves all sorts of other things.
For example I trained Kung-Fu for about two years and in addition to regular training we studied up on the philosophy behind the arts, we learned the legend of how Boddhidharma founded the Shaolin Kung-Fu and Zen-Buddhism and had to endure hours on end in meditation-sessions.
So martial arts is actually a bit more than just getting down some cool moves.
But idk, maybe thats just me.

Canada. Bruce Lee was actually trained in it when he was young and developed JKD based off of it. JKD is more for a street fight though. While all the other traditional Chinese Kung Fu is just really flashy.

I tried self teaching and without someone to tell you what you are doing improperly and how to correct it it is kind of pointless. I really need an instructor. I tried doing Tae Kwon Doe but I hurt my leg skating and lost my resolve. So I lost interest. I wish I had stuck with it. I regret not doing it. I plan to take up fighting at an MMA Gym and start Muay Thai soon, I just need a bit of money though. Also school is a big time consumer.
