Ambition

I've been mulling this subject in my head for a while now and I am interested in what FAKKU has to say about it. It is no doubt that we can attribute all means of human achievement to the ambition of many. We wanted better means to travel, we invented cars and planes. A disease was killing us, so we created vaccines and other medicines to treat it. However, does any one think that ambition can go to far? What I mean is that many historical figures did not have everybody's best interests in mind. In fact I believe most wars are caused by at least two people with conflicting ambitions. So I am asking FAKKU, is having ambition, as a species, worth the suffering it can cause or would we be better off without it? I realize there may be a few gaps in my thinking, please feel free to fill them in.

I'm pretty sure ambition is worth having. Otherwise we wouldn't even be capable of discussing whether or not it was as nobody would have come up with languages.

A system of ethics or morals can guide ambition in what is supposed to be a good way. Of course there doesn't seem to be any consensus on what the ideal ethical or moral system is.

Ambition is always worth it. Without strong ambitions many great strides in scientific history would never have occurred and we'd be set back centuries in our technological findings.
People who start wars because of their ambitions are just willing to do more to get what they want than most and happen to choose a less favorable path to get what they desire.

Okay here we are again. Well ambition is no doubt the thing that promotes human advancement the most, furthermore more the individual ambition. I feel that ambition as shown in history can be taken to far. Like it was napoleons ambition to rule the world and people died same thing with Hitler. But then there are good ambitions it was NASA dream to put a man on the moon and we did it. Therefore it depends on the person and their ambitions.

Yes, ambition is almost always worth it. If it is for a "good cause" (Insert debate on who has the right to decide whats a good cause.) As stated above it happens sometimes that people follow the wrong ambitions, causing much harm. But as you asked, was it worth it, was WWII worth the scientific progress we made? I really can't answer that because I don't really know how I stand myself in that question. But yes, ambition is an awesome treat.
