[Locked] Anime affecting the viewpoints of people?
0
Well, I've been thinking and does anime affect you as a person? Compared to most of the crap I see on T.V. anime really has a deeper and more heartfelt storyline similar to that of a good book. Anything that you can think of can be put into an animated form. You know what is good or bad and anime capitalizes on that fact. The good guy almost always wins. I rarely watch T.V. but every story that I see involves a person and the over exaggerated love life of that person. It just doesn't compare to a good book or anime.
I have really lost interest in most of the real world. It seems boring in contrast. It's like the world of fiction is just so much more fascinating that I hope that some crazy event happens and throws me into the seat of the protagonist. So, does anime really help to shape your personality?
I don't think that I'm crazy... am I crazy? I better not be.

Nah, you ain't crazy. You're just a bit hooked up on anime atm. Happens to everybody. But yes, anime does change the way you view things one way or another.
I got more demanding in quality for example. Now I can't even watch most of the current animes (if it's not well directed, I cannot watch it).
It also changed my view of the world and the way I look at people, etc. Lotsa stuff.

Me, instead of anime affecting my viewpoint, my viewpoints are luckily shown in animes, so, BANZAI to those artists.

Congratz.. You've just made yourself an otaku..
But in anime, you can see some good moral values that you cant find anywhere else..

@TrIx79: This is the third thread I've seen on this matter.
In any case, the way I would put this is that you need some more exposure to the real world and realize that anime is nothing more than fantasy. Don't get me wrong, I love anime, but you can't compare anime to reality. And I would say snap out of it if that would help. Get out more, make money. That's my only real advice.
But much like you mentioned, there are positive things to learn from anime, like certain values such as the willingness to reach one's dreams, shonen spirit, steadfast loyalty in love, be truthful, etc. etc. And anime is really that much more engaging than American cartoons precisely of it's production values (way more than American cartoons) and its depth into human psychology and interaction.

Curious and Wondering
Nope, you're not yet crazy. Welcome to otaku-dom, my friend.
Anime may influence the viewpoints of people but I don't think it should affect viewpoints. I mean, your viewpoints ultimately are your own decision to choose, not anime's. Anime can't decide for you to begin with. It's not like tarot or horoscopes.
It's the same with personality. Anime can show you the doors but it's you who has to open that door.
Maybe currently you need a little breather. Try wallowing in reality for the meanwhile. And maybe in reality's grasp you can see what you really need to see. That's my advice.

It's cause in the US, cartoons are viewed as kiddie, and the reality shows and stuff like Seinfield are cheap to produce and still attract enough viewers to be the most profitable thing. If you know about G4TV here in the US then congrats, you know what happened to it.
Make no mistakes though there are TV shows made in the states that aren't crap. Try Firefly. It got canceled and was screwed by Fox, but it had a genuine deep story.
But I do agree with you, on average anime is far deeper than most shows.

Argh... G4TV... it used to be enjoyable. I'm sure that anime reaches further into the hearts of the audience. Just look at the doujinshi and fan content that comes with every anime; but what about your personality. What I'm trying to say is: does anime reall affect your personality and how you view things. Anime reall touches some key points and is entertaining but has a certain respectability. Shounen animes always include solid morals of good versus bad. Seinen anime have issues such as sex and teen pregnancy. Does it hit deeper enough to affect how you would look at say a teenage mother or someone who was abused. Instead of saying that she was a whore would you try to think beyond the box and feel pity instead of looking down on them?

Spoiler:
Well, gomen ne for that offensive one. But no one can deny you're into anime, so we'll leave it at that ^_^
Yep, life is tough and it doesn't play out equally for the rest of us. But hey, opportunity is fair once it comes your way. And yes, always look up and hope for it. If opportunity comes by, never let it go.
I learned one thing from anime, hopefully it may help you too:
"If you make a wish, and if you keep on making the same wish, hard enough, earnestly enough, it will be granted. That's how strong human wishes are."

As with all media of any kind, it's bound to shape your perception in some way or another. I believe this holds true to anime as well.

welcome,your one of us...
I think anime does change people's vies in life compared to other forms of media. for me, series like black Lagoon and Code Geass changed the way i see life, and does who watched those you know what i mean.
Anime helps cause its more fictious then live-action dramas on tv which i cant relate to since when i look at the actors potraying the characters, all i see are actors acting instead of people actually feeling for the characters.
Lost my train og thought there but you all get me dontyou?
