Have You Ever Been Disowned By A Parent?

have high-standards for their children (at least the good parents do) and many of them had visioned a plan for us when we were younger--whether it being a doctor, or running the family business, marrying a guy within the same religion, etc. The moment we go away from the path they have dreamt up for us, some parents can absolutely lose it. While they are entitled to have a say in what goes on in our life, they definitely shouldn't threaten to disown you if you don't follow it. There are exceptions of course like, stealing from the family, abusing members, or addiction. However, within reason, you are your own adult who will make decisions about your life based on what you think you want best for yourself. Sometimes these decisions will be mistakes and other times you will make the right call.
A few of my friends during my teenage/college years (mostly females) have been told by their mother to never come back to the house again because of a decision he/she had made regarding lovelife, career, religion, or maybe even for getting a tattoo or an aggressive body piercing. Most of the time, it turned out fine in the end, some sort of reconciliation takes place, and in a few weeks things are just peaches again. It is unusual for threats of disownment to last a year. Or am I wrong? Have you ever been disowned by a parent? How long did it last? What pissed them off? Let me guess the number one reason...boyfriend? Shocker.

I've been disowned once..no, twice actually. I forget the reasons they had back then but, I believe it had to do with financial problems of my parents. That coupled with my father's desire to find a scapegoat to blame, so he wouldn't have to accept the reality that he is at fault for his problems.
I wasn't exactly at fault for their problem but, I wasn't exactly innocent either. A shade of gray in a black and white interpretation of the world. A interesting fact about the character that disowned me twice. He even got pissed enough to rant/yell at my mother for me moving out. Yeah, fucked up isn't it? I get blamed and yelled at for every wrong at the house and then he has the audacity to get pissed for me moving out.
tl:dr I was disowned because I wouldn't accept the full blame for the actions of the accusing person.

Nope haven't and most likely won't be, looking at the way things are. However, I do agree with the fact that parents are often overzealous in pursuit of copying their own (not achieved) dreams over to their children.
Example:
my father almost lost it when I told him that I wasn't going to study anything related to math or economy. Every attempt to convince me failed and here I am now, going for German + history teacher. Do I regret it? Nah. Do I think my father would have disowned me (if he would be still alive) nah. My life is my life, their life is their life. The reason children are moving out of their parents homes is because they want to go their own way and want to rely on themselves ... at least it should be that way in an ideal world.

Not yet, but the event of me and my family disowning each other will almost surely happen in the near future...

Disowned by my mother, when she decided to just up and move out of our house because my father and I aren't "religious" enough for her. My father filed for divorce the next day and hasn't looked back since. I guess I can't say much since she is my mother and if it wasn't for her I wouldn't be here, but there was no love in that marriage and I can't say I love my mother either. I sometimes wonder how in the world I was ever born. <.<';;

I haven't, yet, but I will be, once I move out. I know I will. Much like the reasons FPoD has, only it's the mother... not the Father. I swear... it's probably my number one reason why I hate women, but that's beside the point..
Yeah, I'll probably be disowned soon, if only to have it lingering over my head constantly.

I guess you could say I have. About two years ago my father left to Ecuador on a business trip and after 2 years of no return on contact me and brothers are under the assumption that hes left. Now be it my father is 83 years old and has had a very tiring but fulfilling life. So we all decided to leave him where hes at and not bother him. We're holding off the funeral until the company sends us a letter informing us of his death. We're all able to support ourselves seeing as how all my other brothers already have famileis and are in their 50's. Just kinda sucks since I'm still in my 20's tough, but he needs his rest so I understand.

I've been disowned as a threat many times, but never really disowned. Kind of like, "You're not my son," or "Get out of here," or "I'm not your father." Long history, but they were blanket threats that never lasted long, and usually after some sort of blown-up argument to disproportionate size.

I think my parents don't even know what disowning means. Or, at least, they're parents that are way too good to ever even consider that. It probably helps that two not-so-compliant siblings went before me so I could go much further before they even threatened me with a regular punishment.

My family won't disown me no matter how bad I make them look in public (by just being myself) because I'm the sole male heir of the family corporation. I don't plan on taking over such a big conglomerate, so being disowned is fine by me.
