Ignorance is a bliss?

is this why children always seem so innocent? for not knowing means purity.
For example, not knowing that groping at a womans breast is violation of law, kids can be forgiven for touching them!! T3T
However i believe that understanding the rights and wrongs of a certain activity does not affect the outcome too much. ther are still plenty of people attempting to grope womans breast.
so in conclusion,
1) not knowing, groping is okay >.<
2) knowing, DAME DESU!!!
hence, i say, IGNORANCE IS A BLISS!!!!!

Totally does, I've seen more than enough examples to believe it. People who lead a good life and hardly know anything about the world are typically "happier" overall. They don't know about war-torn countries or anything about organized crime. Say there was a big gang in in a city, some careful people might be more worried about it, meanwhile the "ignorant" don't know about it or even know that it exists. Since they don't have that worry, they "enjoy life a bit more" than the ones who are aware.
Meanwhile, I met some people who are aware of several things, I even knew someone who was paranoid about anything. Some even lead very cautious lives.
To give another example, let's say there is a couple. The guy is cheating on his girlfriend/wife left and right. If the wife doesn't notice, she thinks everything is okay and living a good life. If she does notice, one of two things can happen.
1) She finds out and confronts him, it can either break/ruin the relationship or it gets fixed.
2) She ignores it and denies the truth, not wanting to strain or break up. Of course, there are more options, but this is just an example.
As for your example, a kid doesn't really know anything at first, so one can forgive them, but if the kid is aware and does it, then it's a whole different situation. Either way, the 'ignorant' kid is told that it is a bad thing and shouldn't do it anywhere. A grown adult should know the law and follow the rules.

I don't think the kids are forgiven from the law because they were ignorant, but because they were kids. If adults are Ignorant of the law, they still get punished. For example, If I drove 53 mph in a 40 mph area, I would still get fined even if I didn't know it was 40 mph. The only way ignorance could prevent legal prosecution is if a jury decides to make a verdict contrary to the law, because of ignorance.
The statement "ignorance is bliss" is not a means of legal innocence. It basically means that if you're ignorant of something that would make you less happy, then you will be more happy. I'll give a few examples
If you score a touchdown, but there's a penalty, your ignorance of the penalty would result in bliss
If you think your popular, but everyone thinks your annoying, your ignorance of being annoying is bliss
this bliss will only remain as long as you are ignorant; when the ignorance is lost, so is the bliss

Hmmm more examples would be thinking that all your friends love you but in truth they talk shit behind your back all the time.
However does living in ignorance true happiness? It's like living a lie some would say right? Then again it all depends on the person.
This topic makes me think of a book I read back in High School
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fahrenheit_451
where books other then textbooks or manuals are outlawed. Reason? Other types of books can lead to free think and questioning how things are run. In other words Those who strive for knowledge and no longer want to be ignorant. Which is the basic instinct for most sentient life. Though the people might live in supposed ignorant bliss the ones with knowledge see it differently.

I don't really think of bliss as happiness.bliss (bls)
n.
1. Extreme happiness; ecstasy.
2. The ecstasy of salvation; spiritual joy.
Don't just say you don't think of it that way. Please explain what you mean.

Oh, I'm sorry, I meant to say that I don't think of it as "true" happiness. Thank you for catching that.
In a more opinionated tone, I believe true happiness not to be those fleeting moments of ups that we refer to as happy, rather as the long lasting feeling of a content well being.

But Happiness is made more meaningful after hardships. Like becoming a business owner after years of hard work. Nothing lasts forever, hell most happy marriages ends only after a couple of years. Sorry the word Content makes me think of someone settling for something rather then striving for what they really want. I know that's not the only meaning it has, its just what comes to mind.
Ever watch Hotfuzz? The people of the town were content because they were ignorant to what was behind the scenes.

I see your point. Would it maybe be more acceptable if I were to say that true happiness would encompass every up and down, every hardship, and still at the very end of it you are able to feel that joy?

Everyone's Happiness is different, to say another persons description of happiness is wrong is strictly opinion based.
anyway we're somewhat straying from topic.
The main question is whether or not Ignorance is bliss, meaning does not knowing the facts and truths of the world make you happy.
My answer is yes and no. For me I would rather know then not and decide for myself what is my happiness. Others might say they would prefer not knowing but that is up to them.

Yes, back on track.
Ignorance is the state of being Ignorant. Everyone has the ability of that state, so what is to say that certain actions and thoughts are not put into motion during that state? Ignorance of one's own ignorance seems to cause as much anguish for a said individual as it does happiness: An animal doesn't know you are trying to save it, it bites you, you drop it and it falls to it's death. (sorry...a little extreme) or You complain about the state of the world while having no information outside of certain news networks, you get the security of suggested knowledge.

To say that an ignorant man is happier than a knowledgable man is no more to the point than to say a drunk man is happier than a sober man.
Edit: I'm starting to think getting -1 rep is a good thing, as I'm repeatedly getting - rep for posts that nobody shows is wrong.

Well,
Ignorance is bliss in the sense that you don't realize if you are in a state of unhapiness that you are in unhappiness.
That is to say, its better not to know than to know and not be able to do anything about it.
For example, in North Korea,
People worship Kimjong il as a god.
They even have a flower called Kimjongilia.
But they don't know that they are suffering.
If they did know, what kind of torture would they be going through.
Yet at the same time, its sad that they wouldn't know that they should have a better life.
