There are many people out there complaining and arguing that what Jackie Chan had said was wrong and completely uncalled for, and they are even wishing to take away many of his rewards and positions in companies.
Well to be truthful Jackie Chan has a point.
As a people in a whole all we generally do is destroy, so what would happen if Chinese a people of so vast a number were to be free?
Yes, Americans and many other people and countries are free but does that really mean were better off?
and come on Jackie Chan is just stating his own opinion.
He has been all over the world and seen so much so who are we as a people to say he is wrong or right?
Okay if you are angry at him for saying what he said, then fine be angry but there is no reason you should take away his awards, positions, and even his dignity.
He is human like everyone else and let's say he was wrong and people demand a apology well what if we don't get it?
Who cares really? Jackie Chan just stated something. It's not like he killed people.
He also went on to say he wasn't sure if they should or should not have freedom. So he was just speaking his mind.
PHEW!
okay sorry guys i just really wanted to get that out, i mean Jackie Chan is cool to me. I'm a fan and so when people tkae things out of context AND they just so happen to be of a person I like well... IT'S ON!

I personally agree with Chan on this one. I'm Chinese and visit the country at least once a year for several months. The Chinese people are, for the large part, better off under their current system. They are happy, well-provided for, and prospering. When they are given "freedom", they will make a complete mess of it. The Chinese, by nature, are selfish. Lies, bribery, and fraud are a part of daily life over there. There has to be somebody to watch from above and make sure things don't get too out of hand. Mr. Chan most likely recognizes this through all his experiences and has made a valid point. Politicians are simply butchering him simply for rhetoric.
Now, the way he phrased his declaration may have been a little questionable, but I think that people should really think hard about this before jumping to conclusions.

Exactly Pog, the chinese are and can get really crazy sometimes.
i didn't know they were provided by so well tho. Freedom is grand but for some it can be a meltdown. so i guess if chinese were to be given freedom they should get like trial periods or something... but yeah jackie chan is pretty much right about all of it. his words are a bit harsh but not like he really trained to speak like a polition.
oh well i guess some people are just out to get others.

I'm not sure about the entire situation, but it's pretty hard to take "I'm not sure if it's good to have freedom or not" and "I'm gradually beginning to feel that we Chinese need to be controlled. If we're not being controlled, we'll just do what we want" in the wrong way. When the Beatles said they were going to end up bigger than Jesus, people took it the wrong way; they meant it as a bad thing, that they were getting too famous. But with this, there's no misunderstanding. Chan is saying that he doesn't believe that the Chinese should be free. No two ways about it.
I don't have a strong opinion about this, since I'm not Chinese and don't know any Chinese people, but I can understand people being offended. And I think China should be free. I think all people should be free. Controlling what websites people can visit and what people can buy, that's not healthy. And I doubt every Chinese person is a liar or evil person. Lies, bribery, and fraud are a part of daily life here in America, too, but I sure as hell don't think that all Americans should be subjugated.

I do believe that the Chinese people are lacking in certain freedoms, such as free speech and such, but the Chinese people by and large do not feel that they are subjugated. Call it propaganda or what you will, and you may be right, but the fact is that the Chinese people are generally satisfied with what they have now.
I think that we share differing views on what is considered completely "free". When I hear "free" used in context of China, I think of not only democracy, but also a shift to a completely capitalist free market economy, which I believe would derail China's economic stability. As of right now, I think that the command economy is working perfectly fine over there. In order to have that kind of control, 100% full democracy may have to be sacrificed to some extent in order for the government to be able to keep the nation's industry organized and fair.
Furthermore, at it's current stage, I don't think China can afford to suddenly switch government and economic ideologies if it wants to remain a power player in this century.
