[size=10]Hi all. I'm new to Fakku forums and hope I don't wear out my welcome. I help run a blog that translates Japanese news stories that wouldn't normally make it to the USA. I've been lurking a while here and just find the dialogue pretty intelligent here at Fakku. [/h]
JAPAN: Father Strangles Son With Bare Hands
On the afternoon of April 13 2009, a father and son living in a quiet community of the Aichi Prefecture quarreled. By the end of the afternoon, the 47 year old son lay dead in their shared home. The father, 74 years old, admitted that he strangled his son with his "bare hands."
Police officials questioned the father's wife for further details.
She explained that the argument was over where they should store the seaweed purchased hours ago by the son.

I believe I speak for most people here when I say that this guy is a fucking asshole for killing his own son with his bare hands. What else are we supposed to talk about?
I know there's no point of wondering this since he's dead and all this already happened, but, how the fuck did an old ass man strangle the shit out of a 47 year old?

wktra, welcome to the forums, and please continue to share Japanese stories! It's great to hear about stuff that's happening so far away from me, especially when it's a culture that I really like.
As for the news story, that's fucked up. There must have been some big problems in that house for the father to do such a thing.
And yeah, how the fuck did an old man strangle a full-grown man? Was the old guy super buff or something?

I'd say I was also confused as to how the old man could strangle the son, but what boggles my mind is that he does it over seaweed!!!!!!

I remember old news on the sankaku complex was about two elders killed each other about a cat for some reason I can't remember.

Well Done Father Smashed that theory..
Anyway, Seriously either the man was completely lost in his head or that was some very important seaweed, or they've aruged for a while and this was the last blow that finaly made the old man do this.
Though I'm still wondering the same thing as everyone else: How do a 74 year old man manage to strangle his 46 years old son to death unless the son was either very weak or disabled of some sort :?

I'm wondering if there is something more to this than just an argument about storing seaweed. Maybe it was a horrible incidence of misplaced anger?

Yes it would be nice to know how the hell the old mean overpowered his son. But im wondering how the wife knew that he killed him over the seaweed unless she was near them when it happened and if she was what the hell did she do just watch her husband kill her son?

Killing your son over an argument over seaweed makes no sense at all so there must be another reason he did it for and for the father overpowering his son the only things i could think of is the father was in better shape than the son or he knock him out with something and then strangle him.

The only reason I could possibly think of killing someone over seaweed is them both being bipolar and losing it.
It also confuses me how the father overpowered his son. It doesn't seem likely that an old man would be able to take down his middle-aged son.
I'm thinking that the father probably had some major problems if the reason is truly seaweed.

This can't be the only reason. I'd think that their relationship had been strained for years, and the argument over the seaweed was the culmination of it all. At least I would hope. To kill another person, let alone your son, over such pithy a reason is...meh?
I would imagine that the father didn't overpower the son. The son was probably in shock/disbelief over what was happening.

How the most trivial of things can escalate to the most tragic events...At first I believed that this story was fake considering the inverted ages of the father and son (47 & 74). Then I remembered news stories even stranger than this. I do not know what to say other than...well..."Too Bad"
