Just a discussion thread for those who have or are currently reading the book Lolita. I personally am in the process of reading this book because I wanted to read the book that started an entire quadrant of terminology, and because I like very controversial topics. So far I am only 25 pages into the book but I must say it is very interesting to read a book based on the mind of someone that is attracted to younger children. I will post more of my opinion as I get further into the book.
So what are your thoughts on the book?

Haha! That book is disgusting, but my friend did a powerpoint presentation for English class once where he was actually protecting the "father's" decision and he kept saying it was just his "fatherly duty".
Overall: Will never read again.

The book is actually quite interesting and extremely well written, and actually argues a lot not in defense of pedophilia but in understanding.
I hated the book from start to finish, but it was an interesting and worthwhile read.

I agree with the point of understanding, that is definitely starting to shine through now that I am a little further into the book. I love how well written the book is so far, even though I feel a little disturbed with some of presented information.

I remember hearing about this book a fair few years ago when I first leaned the term Lolita. Since then it has never come to mind. I'm going to order me a copy now.

^You go ahead and do that.
This book was actually what changed my entire view on pedophilia and pedophiles. I used despise all of their "kind" but this book actually got me to realize that also pedophiles are feeling humans, and that alot of them hate themselves for what they are.
Society as a whole usually despise all that relate to pedophilia[size=4](Except loli loving geeks like us.)[/h] and more or less accuse all pedophiles of being rapists or sexual offenders, but the truth is that most of them isn't and that most of them are really ashamed and don't want to be pedophiles yet society still does nothing to help them.
We got support-groups for everything from alcoholism to building up your self esteem but very, very limited counseling for this and I think that sucks.
Well, this turned into a bit of a rant and derailed the topic a little but I hope you'll forgive me.

That did not appear to be a rant to me, I definitely agree that the view of a pedophile is one of sick and questioning why people like that exist. Another thing is that an extremely small percentage of those people even attempt anything with a younger child, however those few instances that break the news just create this huge stereotype.

People are so prejudiced against these sort of things. Just look at the whole "Ban Loli" debate that has been going. Loli comics is obviously better that raping, no one is harmed and for all I think it keeps more pedophiles away from raping than encouraging them to it. I actually have a friend who is a pedophile, we hade a discussion about this stuff once and he admitted that one of the things that kept him from real CP was just Loli hentai.
People are so stupid sometimes.

Lolita's got a movie if you guys want to see it. No sex in it though... I think...
I personally agree with Chlor. Just because you have the urge, doesn't make you a monster. People have self-control and morals, and just because they have certain deviant urges, does not mean they'll go against their believes to satisfy themselves. Most pedophiles probably doesn't want to see a child cry, so they won't do anything like rape.
The real monsters are the ones that would hurt or kill children for to satisfy their needs selfishly, without a single care in the world about how they feel.
EDIT: Warning~ Lolita = BAD END

Man I just hit the part when he describes the reasoning behind getting married to Charlotte. Anyone have thoughts regarding that segment of the book?
I understand the guys problem with pedophilia but personally to get married with someone to stay close to Lolita is just horrible manipulation.

Wow - weird time for this topic. I actually just ordered the book on Amazon, then came here and saw this. Been wanting to read it for a while now. Will post impressions when done, but probably won't get to it right away since I've got a few other books to finish first.

Yeah I definitely see how he has more problems then just pedophilia, like how he reacts to events. Just hit the part when his wife got killed and the way he reacted scared me =/
