On Sexuality and Sexual Tolerance

Hello all, It's been a while since I posted anything in SD, but I recently came across a post on Reddit that I believe would be well received and well discussed here in a community like Fakku. Some context: This was posted in a thread where OP asked:
"DAE find r/jailbait to be creepy as fuck? It's a subreddit for suggestive photos of children under 18"
The response was by a user named "relevant_rule34", and is one of the most heartfelt and knowledgeable things I have ever seen on the topic of sexual fetishes.

Here is the response:
You know, I always enjoy reading through discussion threads like this on Reddit, particularly on a vocal community like 2X. In fact, I was actually pleasantly surprised to see the response to this thread. It is clear from the distribution of votes here that 2Xers support the basic ideals of freedom of speech and more importantly, the freedom of sexual expression.
I am sorry OP, but your submission title was very poorly worded; and it seems to me from your responses that you created this post not to facilitate a valid discussion of r/jailbait, but to (pardon the verbage) circlejerk your opinion. There is no value to attacking the sexual identity of someone, and even less merit to doing so over the internet. You don't need to tell the subscribers of r/jailbait you find them creepy. Look through the thousands of throwaway usernames on there and you'll realize that most are already well aware of that. Some of them may in fact despise themselves for being turned on by pictures of pubescent girls, and find that self-hatred pouring out into their every day lives. These people don't need our judgement, they need our acceptance and understanding.
If I asked you if you believed homosexuality was a choice, you would probably answer 'No'. Why then, would the berating of any other shade of sexuality be acceptable to you? People don't choose what turns them on, yet they are often forced to justify to others and even themselves as to why they feel the way they do. If any of you reading this has never ever had a secret desire or fetish you've felt embarrassed about at one point, then I envy you. Nay, I pity you. Why? Because you are missing out on one of the fundamental experiences of being human, and you are going to find it very hard to empathize with your partner and love them wholeheartedly despite their darkest secrets.
I have seen quite a bit of porn, OP. I have seen the images that lurk in the hearts of men and women. I have talked with strangers about things they have never even told their wives or boyfriends. And yet the most heartbreaking thing time after time is to see the dissonance that exists between the person they really are and who they have to pretend to be. Pedophiles; they are many more than you know and a good majority would never lift a finger to hurt a child. Some even choosing to undertake extreme measures to prevent doing so. Zoophiles; some of whom have experienced deeper and more meaningful relationships with animals than the rest of us may ever experience in our lifetime, yet they may never be happy in society the way that most of us can easily be. Self-mutilators; some of whom can't reach any form of sexual gratification without placing their lives or health in extreme danger. Is it fair that some of us get to masturbate to pictures of boobs and roll over to sleep, while others stay up all night, ostracized by implications and improbability of their sexuality?
The world can be a large and uncaring place. If a small community board somewhere on the internet allows people to come together and share with others like them in an open and judgement free environment, then I say let them. They have it hard enough as it is.

Thanks for posting that, this has really cheered me up. Seeing someone who just makes so much sense helps restore my faith in humanity (how cliched :/) but its true. He/She also makes it feel like no matter what your prefrence is there will always be someone who understands or to be frank just doesnt give a damn about it. I'll say here under the gaze of supposed anoyomity that I find incest hot. I've cut myself purely for the sensation of it. I'm intrested in both sexes (I think, could just be horomones I'll admit) I'm a pretty average guy I guess, everyones got their vices so why do some people take on a holier than thou approach? Btw I love you and this community. A utopia of hentai, how blissful.

This was just flat out wonderful to read.
I agree to the word with the relevant_rule34. Irl, I'm the only person I know who is willing to say "I have nothing against pedophiles."
Most pedophiles are not rapists, and those who are, should be convicted of rape, not pedophilia. I find the hatred that unorthodox fetishes receive to be quite odd, because they are one of the few categories of human thought that is still criminalized.
Hate the government? You're free to talk about it, as long as you don't harm anyone.
Hate a certain race/ethnicity/religion? You're not really free to talk about it, but you can still do so to a fair extent with minimal backlash.
Enjoy the products of certain artists in combination with the ingenuity of your own mind? Many would say your as bad as/worse than Hitler, although you've probably never harmed another person in process.
My heart really goes out to those with highly "unacceptable" fetishes who don't know even a single person who understands them. I'm fortunate to have several friends irl whom I can tell of my love of virtually all of my fetishes, not to mention the fact that I like hentai in the first place. I'm even more fortunate to have discovered a place like Fakku, where I know that most people will have the empathy and understanding to not demonize preferences aside from their own. I hope that I can be help others accept themselves in such a way.

Wow, that was some post. I got goosebumps reading it.
It does restore some level of faith in humanity, as Kheldar said, to see people who still have open minds. It also saddens me to think that people like this guy are, as far as I can tell, beginning to fall into a minority in America.
But who's to say that something somebody else does is creepy? Who decides what even qualifies as creepy? The way that most societies work is that things that are uncommon or different from the established norms stick out and are strange. All too often others demonize for things that they just don't understand.
While the OP here has every right to have his opinion I feel that he should have kept it to himself. Nobody wants to see or hear you running around and trying to force your opinions onto others.

My father had a horrible childhood. As a kid, he was sexually abused by a priest - he and several other boys. It basically ruined his entire life, leading him into an endless cycle of depression he still struggles with thirty years later. It's destroyed his, and our family's, lives. This... this has led me to hate every scum-sucking pedophile on the face of the Earth.
Until, something happened. On another forum (not this one), a man... well, I say man. A kid, really. 17 years old. He was being so unfairly harassed for identifying as a "pedophile". People would slag him off at every opportunity. And it came to be attention that the kid was harmless. It made me think; did I "choose" my fetishes? Did I choose to identify as a macrophiliac? And even if I did. Would it be fair that other people told me I should stop? Especially when I've done nothing wrong. So; I took a stand. And defended the lad.
And now he's one of my best friends.
This turn of events taught me a lot, about myself, and my threshold for tolerance. Don't get me wrong, my sheer, pure hatred for pedophiles still lingers. It's never going away. Even with the difference between "child rapists" and "pedophiles" clearly established in the inside of my mind, I cannot dare look to anyone labeling themselves as a pedo without loathing their very existence. But, well, I know it's wrong of me. Not in all situations, of course. There's no such thing as a one-size-fits-all scenario. ...but I've learned to tolerate, and even go so far as to accept, that sometimes, pedophiles and other "wrong" people... aren't wrong at all. They're just normal people who identify this way. And they don't deserve the hatred they get.
I still feel sick in the stomach when I hear of pedophiles. But that's on my head; not their's.

I think one of the unfortunate problems with pedophiia is that one can't really indulge it without rape, considering there is no way a per-pubebescent child would consent to sex(After puberty i do think its possible for a teen to consent tho)
With that said, i judge people by there actions, not there thoughts.
Also, exactly what kind of stuff is posted under r/jailbait(I don't realy use reddit)? I don't feel like i can really judge it fairly without knowing

Sexually oriented pictures of underage kids (mosty girls, duh).
Last I heard though r/jailbait got taken down?
Edit: Checked, and while the primary r/jailbait board is gone there are numerous smaller ones that are all for the same thing

Are the girls pre-puberscent, or are they older but not quite legal teens(LIke Dakota Fanning in the Runaways)? Cause i think there is a major difference between those 2.

It's illegal to feature underage teenagers in pornographic works even if they are over the age of consent.
Jailbait though tends to refer to girls who are *very* much pubescent... so depending on the jurisdiction you're in, they might be over the age of consent. It's just that in a lot of states in the USA, the age of consent is rather high (16-18 vs. 14-15 as in most of Europe), so you have conversations like this:
Guy 1: "Dude I think that chic is checkin me out."
Guy 2: "No man, stay away she looks like jailbait to me."
Guy 3: "Yea man, 14 will get you 20."

Actions will always speak louder then words and understanding can be deeper then the ocean but harder to find then a needle in a haystack. Be open minded, dont hold your feelings back, and do not seek to harm others because they are different then you or your ideas. Our world today is full of people who do the opposite in one too many circumstances and blind sighted fools such as these dont even deserve a second glance. May the world of FAKKU! and its inhabitants continue to hold true to their ideas and still be accepting of others.
Thank you.
Thank you.

A sad truth. It doesn't even have to be about loli/shotacon. Free speech about sex is generally stifled outside of the internet. Even it takes some amount of anonymity to make us be more true to ourselves then so be it. That also says a lot about our society.
I can't count how many movies/songs/etc that preach "be yourself", yet society wants people to be "normal" and will very quickly shun those that are not even if they are being who they really are.

I can tolerate just about any sexual preference, be it towards the underage, non-humans, the same sex, things that don't even exist, or just some kind of specific thrill. People have no choice on what they're attracted to, so I cannot judge them for their preferences.
However, I believe I can judge people for their actions. When some people go outside of being abnormal and stray into hurting others in some way to achieve sexual gratification, then I believe I have the right to say that what they're doing is wrong. Exempla gratia: it's fine for someone to love an animal, but to violate an unwilling one is to throw dust in the eyes of natural rights and to smear the reputation of people who love animals.
Furthermore, sexual contact with the sexually ignorant is, in my opinion, just as immoral. To molest a young child is to prey upon a being that doesn't fully realize the situation and cannot therefore soundly accept or reject sexual advances. "Rape" is not the word for such an act, for the advances have not been rejected, but they have not been accepted either, and as a result are unwarranted and morally defunct.

I had to +Rep the OP...unless they are harming others in the process or going against their partner's will, I don't care what they do. This bashing of peoples with unique sexual preferences has to stop.

That was a refreshing read. It clearly reinforces what I already feel about other people's sexuality as well as my own. However, its natural for some people to find certain sexual preferences weird, impure or even unhealthy. When people don't understand something in regard to sexual preferences, its usually due to the lack of a motivational drive for it. Everyone has their own drive towards one sexual preference or another. This motivational drive is basically your emotion. Emotions are abstract, so you can't apply a sexual preference to logical analysis. If you ask me why I like anal sex, I'm just gonna say "because it makes my dick hard". If you ask me why I hate guro, I'm gonna say "because it gross me out". Emotions are the deciding factor to what your sexual preferences are (perhaps genes play a role as well. If that is the case, then someone's sexual preference should never be scrutinized period.). On the other hand, there are instances where someone might suppress their emotions toward a sexual preference due to shame, confusion and fear. This of course leads to destructive behavior. I'm sure some of you are aware of how many pedophiles there are in the U.S alone. Can you imagine what they must be going through having to hide their sexual preference from the public (including their family)? However, even though I say that, there are some sexual preferences that should remain a fantasy and not be physically expressed for obvious reasons. Its all a matter of common sense and courtesy.
