So, I've decided to watch a movie when this happens...

Apparently, there's a lot of controversy amongst this kind of "crack down".

On my opinion, I do believe that there are places on the internet that can allow you to have freedom. I don't really care much about the movie industries that say that the people of the internet are "stealing" their works, but I also feel some-what no apathy about movie sites beginning to be caught like this.
I guess it's no real wonder how Federal Customs agencies such as the FBI and such know about this, thanks to Google's search for text. But, I'm starting to think that Big Brother is starting to slowly creep in to the USA.
Any thoughts or comments?

that's my thought on the situation actually.
That they're posting a thing with a bunch of pretty emblems on it.
Sure it'll scare some people. But piracy won't die off just because of this new movement. It'll probably make it worse in the end. So it's just a LAWL about it.

I suppose. And it makes me wonder if the whole "sharing is wrong" because this movement is in place...
I thought this was interesting as well...

It's kind of like when you see that long stream of white Japanese text scroll through at the bottom of an episode that was just released.
It's directly speaking to anime subbers out there and tell them that they're breaking the law. I see subbers all the time just put their translation over top of it, and I've even seen one group translate the scrolling text mocking it. "We just wanted to say we noticed our material rapidly growing on the internet, and we wanted to tell you guys that we think it's cool! Keep up the great work at promoting our material!"
It'll scare some people, but it won't scare the majority of people.

Oh, is that what that scrolling text is?
I always wonder about that, now I know.

Can't you get around this sort of thing just by being based in another country?
i just read somewhere about a group from switzerland or sweeden(i forget which) that was being herassed for sharing movies over the internet. i think the end result was american copyright laws only aplly in america or something to that affect.

I think regular movies are ok to have tougher rules in regards to downloading and not purchasing. They always offer movies in regular and blu-ray formats as fast as they can get them on the shelves.
On the other hand for anime I think no crack down should happen. If American anime companies are not going to release the series I want to watch I am going to download them. The second part of that is if the American anime companies release the series with no blu-ray option even though the disks exist in Japan...why the hell would I pay for a lesser quality version of the series?
Companies just need to think before they bitch.

If I remember what the whole thing is.
There is kind of a legal coalition of countries or something. Can't remember the name. But anyways, copyright violation in one can be applied to another. So if you violate it in one country, you can be tried for it in another or some such thing. Don't know the exact detail, just know that it exists.
As for basing it out of the country. That only works for the people distributing it. I believe the people on the receiving in can still get in trouble.

Yeah. It's called The Pirate Bay. They're from Sweden. For those who don't know, The Pirate Bay, TPB, is a torrent sharing website where you can download the torrent for movies, programs, television series, et cetera (yeah, I said that), and download the files from that torrent thanks to the help of a Torrent client, Bittorrent, et cetera.
Here's a list that I had found, thanks to Google, where they were harassed about "stealing money" and "breaking the law", taken from The Pirate Bay website itself.
Pirate Bay "breaks" the legal in USA
And here's a factual article about their "law-breaking" here in the USA.
Pirate Bay is "cracked"
Personally, I love using that site for the movies that I want to download, but I've recently stopped, due to the fact that some files are slow to download. Ugh. Took me forever to download a bunch of movies just from one file torrent. Feel free to keep discussing.

Just don't forget that YOU can get in trouble for downloading the file.
Mostly because of the way torrents work. Pirate bay can't get in trouble, but you can.

That being said, I may have given away my position. Ha! Oh well. It might take them several years to find this, or I might have already jinxed it.

Meh. They typically don't file charges against mundane people. And usually with people who use much easier tracked methods than torrents.

that doesn't mean you're safe. It's just they don't like to go after those because it's harder to gather evidence.
