The REAL world.

One of the most powerful documentary's i've watched it quite sometime. It outlines and shows first hand up as a team of journalists travel into the heart of West Africa and Liberia.
It really makes me wonder how fucked up this world really is and reinforces my stance on the UN being nothing more than a huge joke.

Welcome to The Vice Guide to Liberia. VBS travels to West Africa to rummage through the messy remains of a country ravaged by 14 years of civil war. Despite the United Nation’s eventual intervention, most of Liberia’s young people continue to live in abject poverty, surrounded by filth, drug addiction, and teenage prostitution. The former child soldiers who were forced into war have been left to fend for themselves, the murderous warlords who once led them in cannibalistic rampages have taken up as so-called community leaders, and new militias are lying in wait for the opportunity to reclaim their country from a government they rightly mistrust. America’s one and only foray into African colonialism is keeping a very uneasy peace indeed. In Part 1, Vice’s own Shane Smith provides a brief history lesson and some essential context for understanding what caused Liberia’s civil war and how things got so bad. Liberia was originally planned and founded as a homeland for former slaves back in 1821. But fast forward a bunch of years and a military coup and you find the First Liberian Civil War in 1989: yet another third-world regime change in which the US-backed opposition, led by Charles Taylor, overthrows a government unfriendly to US interests. Once in power, Taylor’s corrupt, dysfunctional government quickly finds itself under attack by local warlords, leading to the Second Liberian Civil War ten years later. From there things go from bad to total shit.

I should really stop running from reality and face it head on. But we all know it takes more than one person to change the world. Even if I did set up a giant plan to fix at least something, the governments stand in the way. Most the money from charity that go to poverty are taken by the government anyway -___-

It's such a limited view of reality. This is simply one face of humanity, among many. This stuff has been happening since human civilization, it's nothing new.
I don't understand why they are hating on the UN. It is simply one organization, it can't do everything, its resources are limited. Liberia is such a shit hole and things are so messed up right now. No one has been able to come with a method to help them. Complaining about it won't help. This is beyond sending money, food and medical supplies....

I finished watching the video and I must agree with the OP. The UN is one big fucking joke. Its one thing to be practically useless, but to actually join in on the corruption? I didn't think anything of UN prior to watching this, but now I can honestly say I hate them. With that said, Liberia needs one hell of a miracle in order to get out of the state its in now. Its ironic how such a place meant to represent peace and freedom ended up being hell on earth. As for Butt Naked, he needed to STFU. If he really feels bad for the war crimes he committed, he'd turn himself in to the authorities, not convert to Christianity because it'll free him from his charges. I can't help but smell BS on that part.
*sigh* what a sick, sad world we live in. These kinds of videos remind me how much I take my lifestyle for granted.

I feel it important to remind/inform people, that the individuals who are born and raised in war scenarios, know nothing else. We feel intense anxiety when we see what is happening, but to these people, it is life. They laugh, cry, win, lose, have children, lose children ect. There is still cool technology, fancy hotels and modern cars. There is even still religion.
War is simply another existence.

Do you have no sense of decency? Are you saying "oh it's pretty fucked, it seems pretty hard to fix, let's just let them die in their shit while i complain that that muffin is too expensive." Because you're sounding a lot like the UN.
And that's why people are hating on the UN. Because of the amount of hypocrisy, double standards that goes on and how they act purely out of self interest to Western nations. And the UN aren't just an organization, they are the biggest and most influential organization on the Earth. Do you even have the slightest clue what the UN is? Here i'll make it simple for you -
"The United Nations (UN) is an international organization whose stated aims are facilitating cooperation in international law, international security, economic development, social progress, human rights, and achievement of world peace."
Economic development, social progress, human rights, and achievement of world peace. Something that goes largely ignored by the UN. But it seems they're more than happy to jump into Libya which oh so conveniently has oil while Syria a country with similar circumstances goes largely ignored.

And what are you trying to say? That it's okay for them to live like that?
You two obviously haven't watched the documentary. If you did and stand by those comments then i salute you for having no sense of morality and for being disgraceful human beings.

I am amazed, and not in a good way. I knew shit like that is happening in many places of the world, but when the report comes from the affected people, it suddenly feels so realistic. I am not surprised that Liberians are hating on the U.N., since they obviously couldn't care less about the poor people. I admire these independent journalists, since they are the only ones who can bring unbiased viewpoint on the situation. Also, they bravery is unparalleled, being surrounded by war generals, cannibals, junkies and people willing to kill for money.
For those interested in similar stuff, I recommend watching a documentary called The War You Don't See, which shows how USA "helps" with their wars. It's sad how only few people decide the future for many people, yet they always make decisions beneficial only to themselves...
