[Locked] U.S Nuclear power benefit or be bad?

The Republican Party has plans for the future advancements of Nuclear Power Plants. They are planning to make several dozen more nuclear power plants across the U.S mostly the lower 48.

What do you mean, "lower 48", could you elaborate?
I'm very much pro-nuclear, but frankly the tech used nowadays is outdated. There hasn't been any significant research into reactor designs since the '60 and right now the whole industry is locked into a very inefficient and wasteful model.
The efficiency of (most) current is about 0.5%. CANDU reactors can do 0.7%. Both of these figures are terrible.
We could do a lot better, it'd take about a billion dollars to get the first 4th generation reactors into commission:

If we advance nuclear research and development, we will be able to build safer, more efficient nuclear plants.

True, but petroleum resources are not going to last forever and we soon need to find a new source of energy that is efficient. Nuclear power is unstable, but is a source of energy and we need to study and understand it to prevent what happened in Japan and Chernobly.

Still the plants should be place away from where there are people to help minimize risk. I still don't like the idea.
And yeah fossil fuel's are not going to last forever.... but i would look to off-world mining and such before we rely completely on nuclear. But that's a bit fictitious even for me.
