yesterday the first collisions were made in LHC in Cern :D

Now bfore you posts about how LHC is going to en the world read this:
http://public.web.cern.ch/Public/en/LHC/Safety-en.html
http://www.guardian.co.uk/science/2009/nov/18/cern-lhc-startup
Now you should understand that it is only a rumor, and that those who came upp with it in the first place didnt have the competence to make such a judgement.
Moving on this is Facinating, as one of the articles on the links I posted says it were going to see if the higs particle exists :D The higs is by the way the messenger particle of gravity, a little vague you could say that the higs makes the gravitatinal force by going forward to one particle and back again to the particle it came frome.
and through this we ma also see if the rolled up extradimensions wich string theory says exists is real thus giving us the first eperimental tests of the theory. OBS extradimensions should not be confused with other universes or worlds. rather it is a direktion in space. a good way to illustrate it would be to think of a onedimensional world, no wait the inhabitants think it is onedimensional, but in reality it is cylinderformed, so howcome they dont notice it? That is because the circumference of the cylinder is so ridiculusy smal that they simply cant detect it. Just as you cant se a single straw of hair when its to far away from you.
This among other things are going to be tested now whos exited :D?

And hey, if they really prove some different dimension bullshit I'll gladly change my view of the world based on that evidence.

wow that sure seems quite interesting hope they get more into it :P

I wouldnt be so fast to say that it is bullshit, maybe you could explain why it is bullshit? Its just like the cosequences of the theory of relativity, you cant detect it with the naked eye or any other of your 5 senses (you need to have something that can detect things that are much farther away, like a telescope), but its still there.
And I might ad that the theory of general relativity is proven true. actually the gps depends on it to be able to pinpoint a position with sush accuracy. And what the theory of relativity is all about is gravity, it explains it as the gravity is a bending of the room (room is required, if anything shall be able to exist or else it has no room to exist in, another word for it would be space). But to be able to bend our room in such a way that the theory of general relativity says, you have to do it in one dimension higher than the room itself, wich means that there must be a room wich our room exists in (hyperspace) because there will be space between the two ends of the part of the room tha is bent.
the conclusion is hyperspace exists and it has at least one dimension more than our room. As you see the concept of higher dimensions is nothing new. There exists at least one more dimension than what we can see, and imagine. But we can still figure out how it works, because there is no difference betwen higher dimensions and the three that we can imagine.

I share you excitement about the LHC. I'm so looking forward to see especially string theory is true, although I don't really think LHC is enough to obtain any direct proof of it. Well, it can get some indirect proof, so whatever. And Higgs, too. They need to do some serious thinking if they don't find it, lol...because if it exists then it's almost certain that LHC will find it.
Anyway, I'd like to point this out...
The boson that acts as the messenger particle of gravity is graviton, not the Higgs boson. Higgs is the one that gives mass to other particles.

I just waiting for the result to make head line in the local news but it was prety interesting if they already find another dimension don't you.

oh shit thanks, now I have to study it for real. Gotta ask my techers about this...

well they already invented the internet and by proxy gave us all access to Fakku so I am eagerly awaiting Cern's newest developments.
