Well I will buy it on day 1 only cause it is a remake with new visuals and stuff. Maybe they can add that crazy island to revive Aries XD. But i loved it but only fear I have is that it is still a good length off, oh and them trying to change the combat system which was the way I always loved in FF or the material system which again I loved.

Not that hyped, actually somewhat miffed that FF5 and 6 haven't gotten a modern day reskin yet, and I really do think they deserve it more, but that's an opinion for another day.

I actually hope they do change some things around, like fix the localization and even the battle system. Can't work on pure nostalgia alone.

I suppose on some level I understand the people that don't want anything to be changed because this is obviously targeted at people with lots of nostalgia but at the same time, have you played FFVII recently? It's full of translation and spelling errors, the writing (even accounting for errors) is about as strong as a late 90s JRPG, the battle system is plenty functional I guess but the idea of having the graphics super updated and still having Cloud jump across the screen to deliver one sword slap and then jumping back into place feels pretty silly.

I really think the game needs a big overhaul to be worthwhile. At a bare minimum there needs to be a complete overhaul of the dialogue and I think even the current Square-Enix that can't seem to write a story where the characters don't know how to talk about anything other than hearts and darkness could do a better job with it.

I'm looking forward to it, as ff7 was the first rpg I ever played. I'm annoyed at all the people who actually expects there not to be any changes in the game. I mean, its a "remake" not a "remaster".

Nomura said, he wanted to work on other ff remakes as well. That includes 5 and 6. I'm interested in 6, never did finish it.

I believe I read in one of the interviews they said they will "remake" the game, not just "update the graphics"... so for anyone expecting a just "upgrade graphics FFVII" hold your hype because FFVII might change and not be as we remember it.

It already isn't like 90% of the people who want this remember it anyway. There's still enjoyment to be had from it but its aged very badly.

So far, it just looks pretty.

You can't really tell anything else besides that it looks pretty from the current footage.

Until we see some legitimate game play footage it will be hard to make any sort of judgement about our thoughts on it.

I imagine they'll have to update the dialogue regardless given that it should be mostly spoken (I really hope they don't resort to much text in today's gaming environment.)

Story wise I don't really know if they need to change it up too terribly much. Maybe just a little bit here and there to make it flow better but that's about it.

Combat system needs a complete overhaul. Your basic turn based system it had before would be awful. In the very least, they need to look at an evolution of the materia system.

Also wonder how much effort they'll put into the side missions and quests in updating them as well.

You better believe this game will look completely different but we might have to wait a long time before we get to see first gameplay footage, let alone seeing this game being actually released.

About that. Nomura has already confirmed that the combat will change and that having realistic characters standing in line waiting to hit and get hit isn't the way to go.
My biggest fear and I expect it to happen is that the game will turn into something action heavy, and with Nomura's track record, it will just happen. Altough I've got nothing against action, FF7 was remembered for its turn based ATB battle system so if at the very least he could make something along the lines of an improved FFX-2 batte system then I'd be very VERY, happy. Let's face it we've never had a decent high budget turn based console game since a long LONG time (FFX2). Persona doesn't count. Last Remnant was very close.

I can't see him completely going away from turn base. Action heavy would suit the story and characters of FFVII even less so hopefully he realizes that.

Again, I wouldn't mind seeing a system that allows strategic and unique use of the materia. There easily plenty of paths you can take with the combat with the materia that would keep a good feel for the game.

It's really hard to say though. I guess we'll just wait and pray.

It got a lot of flak for being too MMO influenced but I liked FFXII's gambit system. I mean, it's basically the standard for games these days. Have a series of priorities to set for the AI and then you can just take them over at any time if you wish.
