New Sonic Game!

I haven't enjoyed a Sonic game since Sonic Rush / Adventure for the NDS, and that was 2D as well. I can't remember the last 3D Sonic game I actually liked (if there ever was on in the first place). I was very pleased to read this on Kotaku just now.
"Old-school Sonic fans have long asked to see Sonic return to a more 2D style of gameplay" says Sega of America's Ken Balough. "Many liked the daytime stages in Unleashed, but wanted to see a game that plays purely similar to the early games of the Genesis. Project Needlemouse is that critical first step that brings Sonic back to his 2D roots."
The teaser clip's tagline reads "Speed returns, in an all new 2D adventure built from the ground up", with Balough confirming the game will, rather than be a retro-remake, be an all-new game built in HD.
It'll be out in 2010. No word on platforms, but the "HD" bit certainly narrows it down. What do you think, Sega fans? Do you dare to hope?
There is no lack of good games for me to play in the time that I wait, but this is a good treat. Can't wait for Scribblenauts on the 15th! :D

It appears that Sega may actually have been listening. After years and years of (mostly) awful 3D Sonic games, the company is now teasing something called "Project Needlemouse", billed as a return to the Sonic of old."Old-school Sonic fans have long asked to see Sonic return to a more 2D style of gameplay" says Sega of America's Ken Balough. "Many liked the daytime stages in Unleashed, but wanted to see a game that plays purely similar to the early games of the Genesis. I have. I take that statement back. It was ages ago.
That being said, I still enjoyed 2D Sonic much much more than any of the 3D games. I just hope the Sonic Cycle won't apply to this one...

Sonic Adventure and Sonic Adventure 2 were both great in my opinion. I still own both for the Dreamcast. Other than that, no, there are no good 3D Sonic games. They need to stick to what made Sonic originally good, and stop trying to add new styles of gameplay and new fucking characters.

This is probably gonna be another shitty Sonic game. That still won't stop the media and fanboys from hyping this like it's the second coming of Jesus.

Maybe a Sonic Adventure 3? That would be epic.

Yeah. Sonic Adventure may have had its flaws, but overall it was Sonic in a 3D environment done right.
Nowadays they just choose random gameplay elements, add in a dozen new characters and some other nonsense, then see if it works.
I would love to see a Sonic Adventure 3 done right. That'd be the shit.

The fact that the "trailer" explicitly stated that it was a 2D Sonic game raised my hopes a bit. Even if it actually means 2.5D, that just means it'll be like Rush (/Adventure). Considering that the daytime levels of Unleashed were generally praised, it's safe to say that Sega hasn't lost its touch in that regard.

Finally... Sonic just hasn't been fast in any of the recent games. You would stop and sword fight or have to change into this fat ass wolf thing. Maybe now Sonic will finally regain his wind and be a game about a hedgehog that runs fast. I don't need any of this story bullshit to enjoy a good sonic game. If they can incorporate it than all the better but I would just as well love a sonic game where you just run through obstacles really fucking fast.

Had to be done.
No, if you look at the responses in this thread as well as the Kotaku thread, you can see that you're amongst the only few who don't care about this game.
