ps3 disc readig error.

so I have been a ps3 member for a long while and for some reason my ps3 stopped reading ps3 games. It will play the downloaded games, movies, cds. But when you put a ps3 game disk in there it will spin then freeze then continue to spin. I tyied to turn it off it beeped twice but continued to try and read the disks. I don't know if any one else has this problem or not, but I'm guessing it might be the blue ray reader or something.

Do you or anyone you know smoke near the PS3 frequently?
Anyways, regardless of the question it sounds like you need to take it apart and do some cleaning. The reason why I ask is because, if someone does smoke frequently around this, the PS3 has can actually accumulate tar on the fan, it actually is quite difficult to clean off. My friend had to replace his fan unit on his because of that.
But it sounds like your blu-ray diode needs some cleaning, just get a q-tip and a bit of alcohol and very VERY lightly dab and clean the lens, if that doesn't work, you may need to replace your diode altogether.
If you've never done it before there are probably a dozen videos on Youtube you can use as a resource to cleaning/fixing/replacing the feature that's faulted.
I've cleaned mine before, and even did a little dust blasting with compressed air on the inside, runs like new, and it's almost never hot no matter how long or in what season I play it. She's still running strong after 6 years.

Or if you have 100 dollars and don't want to risk taking it apart, send it in to Sony and they'll fix it right up for ya, as well as run you through a few pre-game deals to make sure they you can't fix it without sending it in. As soon as you pay they send the box to ship it in and everything.

Well we opened it up since the warranty was expired. The blue ray player stopped reading discs for some unknown reason, and one of the arms used to eject discs had broken off. In short I have to buy another PS3. Thank you to all of the people that have taken the time to help me. I'm just going to buy another and hopefully be able to swap the hard drives.

Unless you can find a PS3 for less than 100$ that's what I recommend.

I don't think that they'll accept it in the condition that it is currently in.

Well I opened it up to find the problem, because the disk wasn't ejecting to along with not reading and it was the blue ray player. One of the arms inside snapped and it was dusty as hell so My girlfriend and I just put money together to buy a new one.
We thought about just switching hard drives but apparently sony stopped making my exact model during production so we had to spend a whole day redownloading. Which wasn't a problem.
Thanks for all the help with my problem. I didn't actually think someone would have replied to my issue at hand.

Disk cleaner once every three months and cover it when not in use. Compress air every once and awhile and my xbox, ps3, 360 still work since i first bought them.
