I'll be honest, i've never played the first game, but i've heard many things about it. A company that is true to its fans, the PC gamers. I'm quite interested in this one. Very few info,so this will do.

I played the first game...it was horrible. I won't go into full detail because I don't have the space, however it's not a game I would look at and think "Yeah they should make another one of these."

You see, i've heard that too. It was the companies first ever game, with no experience. The first one had much flaws, so the company redid the game from scratch, fixed basically everything, sold the game in a very low price. Then was highly acclaimed, and mostly adored for listening to the fans.

Oh well if they've actually fixed some of the crippling problems with the first game then good for them maybe the sequel will actually be good.

the first game was bad, but i agree with yushi, its their first game, cut them some slack. The 2nd one on the other hand is rather awesome if i do say so myself. I enjoyed it alot

If you like WRPGs, you will likely love this game. I have enjoyed this quite a bit myself. Keep in mind that if you play on insane, it literally is meant to be insane as when you die once it locks your save games of that playthrough, meaning it's done.

It's definitely also like Mass Effect in that your decisions can change events later in the game.

I've played both games, and they were amazing. Both have good, branching storylines with a lot of subtleties and good gameplay. Gameplay is relatively different from one game to the other, but both have a certain feel that is unique to each of them. Nude ladies, good story, good character design and development, some downsides that were barely noticeable (in the 2nd game) and some that were a bit annoying, but easy to overlook (the 1st game). Both The Witcher 1 and 2's choices affect the whole game and how the story will play out. For example, if you were to make a certain, seemingly minor choice now, you'd see the outcome of that choice either at the very end of the chapter, or 1 or 2 capters onward. Imo, you should play both games in order, seeing as how The Witcher 2 is much more enjoyable when you understand all the references, and they are plenty.

The first game was weirdly taxing for any modern computer. I haven't played it yet but I think I have enough money to try it soon and still have some spare to buy Skyrim when it's released.

Definitley worth buying, plus it's on sale on Steam right now. The graphics are amazing, and the story is enjoyable even if you haven't played the first one. The voice acting is top-notch at most times, and the script is solid.

Since I'm not doing jack shit right now (on leave from work), I've been playing the Witcher 2. Played the first one and loved it, then the new one came out in the US and I just HAD to import it for a damn fortune. Totally worth it though. Awesome game that every RPG fan should play. I have been a long time fan of the Witcher, books and the games. Props to CD Projekt for making the Witcher.

I have run into a rather annoying glitch though, wondering if anyone else is getting this. Obviously you know it loads while you're walking, cuz the load thing pops up at the bottom right. But every once in awhile, it doesn't. instead, it cuts straight to the loading screen, completely blocking my view of the game. Only lasts for a second or two, but it happens three, four times before it stops. Anyone else getting this?

So I picked it up and spent a good couple of hours on it. Never played the first but I mustsay that the Witcher 2 is an amazing experience. It's also pretty damn difficult considering you can easily be one hit by monsters on insane (screw normal) but the battle mechanics are solid though most of the time I find myself only using Yrden and Quen signs, and potions tend to be kinda worthless unless you're really needing a boost in the next battles.

And while you don't get a ridiculous amount of space to go exploring, the game's plot really does make up for it. I'm loving the dialogue and how you really feel like the decisions you make (even the minor ones in the very beginning) will have a big effect on others. the game also does inject some humor every now and then so it doesn't get too dark.

So one thing that I noticed is that a lot of people didn't like the controls and inventory system. Personally it looks a bit intimidating but the inventory is really straightforwards imo. The only other thing you need to know is to make sure you find a place to go into meditation (ctrl + center icon) to make sure you spend your skill points from level ups, and to use any mutagens on those skills. From meditation you can also rest up to jump times in a day, mix and drink potions. That's pretty much all you need to get started with. Crafting is quite self explanatory, just wait to you go to Flotsam and meet the dwarve blacksmith in the nonhuman district to get crafting.

How come I missed this before?

Nevermind.

I never played the first one, and honestly I could care less, but second one is just awesome.

I absolutely love the combat system, even if the game does try (quite successfully) to kill you at all times - which is part of the fun. The character development system is also quite decent, and adds to replaybility (whenever you want to be a pure swordsman, mage or alchemist or a mix of each) along with the branching storyline (Iorveth vs. Roche paths past Act I, and varied endings to each one). Plus, the Witcher's world is one of the most climatic fantasy worlds I've ever seen. Period. Plus the plot is pretty neat too.

If there are some issues I'd really have with this game, it would be performance (although it may just come down to me having graphic settings set too high) - the game tends to slow down a lot, especially when changing menus; the fact you can only delete one save at a time (and you must make a *lot* of them) and that installation was absolutely atrocious. But besides that, best game I played all year.

And speaking of which, I played it both in English and in Polish, and I must say that Polish VAs really come off much better then English ones. Especially Foltest. I mean, he sounds so incredibly badass in Polish, whereas in English he comes off pretty meh. Though it may be because some Polish dialogue just doesn't translate to English well.
