Thoughts on Metro Last Light pre-order bonus for Hard mode?
0
As you may or may not know, the developers of Metro Last Light has completely made it so that Ranger mode (E.g hard mode) can only be accessible through a pre-order bonus or paying about 5 US dollars.
(Angry Joe's video about it)
I can't even believe why the developers thought this was a good idea. I would really love to see other people's thoughts on this.
Do you think similar practises will end when developers finally realize what they're doing? Or do you think that developers will only continue doing it and make it even worse?

Something tells me that if the Metro community is angered by this too (which it seems), the modding community is gonna make a mod that IS ranger mode, and then release it for free.
Both DLC and DRM are getting out of control. Fast.

Well at this point in the industry people are scrambling for every dollar they can get. When a game sells over a million copies and still is considered a failure, that is something of a problem. I'm not sure this is the reason behind it but it most likely plays a factor into it. I however do disagree with this, as it's like ripping part of the game out and selling it separate. While I don't agree with the principle of it, it isn't that big of a deal because it's only 5 bucks.

Hitman has always been a niche game and the fact that it sold MILLIONS is amazing. Tomb Raider was also a niche game, but the sex appeal was there.
However, lots of people think that SE just wants a default "10 mil+" goal because it has their name slapped on them.
It isn't fair that a difficulty is NOW some sort of DLC, later on we're gonna be paying for all the difficulties besides Easy. From Horse Armor, we came to this. This is just despicable.

Well it's easy to look at Square Enix and big companies as the big bad man who wants all the money while he sits on a fat stack of cash but it is a company after all. They're not a friend who is gonna have your best interest at heart. I don't think they should be vilified for expecting a few of their games to ease some of their financial woes.
I do, however disagree with this DLC fiasco as I stated before because just like the publishers of Metro Last Light have their pockets in their best interests,so do I and while I plan on buying the game, I personally have no problem going without Ranger Mode.

I loved Metro 2033 and i played it in Ranger mode. Despite how much i dislike the whole preorder feature, i have to buy it since i had too much fun with the first one.
I guess their dirty preorder DLC scheme worked on me ö___ö

I'm not even vilifying SE, they should have known the risks of buying those games off. Again, Hitman and Tomb Raider were pretty niche games as a whole. They should have known the risks of getting the bill to pay those games out. The fact that they were expecting such sales is ridiculous and any big fan would have told them the same. Again, Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts sell millions, did they really expect to get the same amount of sales?
They took a risk and it didn't pay off, it's like THQ, some games and studios got sold almost immediately, but Darksiders wasn't, why? It hasn't sold amazing numbers and it is still a bit difficult to make that name sell. Someone should know the risks and stop whining if they go with it and it doesn't work out.
I know about capitalism and think it's a good system. But I'm not going to let every step of game developers be nickel and diming us in return. This is why many places go down, they start ruining things, companies start making bad return policies or bad customer service for example and everyone moves on.

To be honest, the Xbox version you had to pay for the ranger dlc for 2033 - Free on PC.
This is nothing new... Plus I bet half of the people won't even play it on the hardest difficulty (The AI was wonky in 2033 too)

They did a lot more to fix the game this time around, I played it for about 3 hours last night and I had it set on Normal, might switch it to hard because normal seems a bit too easy, in 2033 you had to use your ammo sparingly but in Last Light you seem to always have an abundance of it.

That's true but that was released after the game came out. This add on was made before the game was even released therefore it should come free with the disc. If it was just a timed exclusive to people who pre-ordered it then it wouldn't be too bad but they're still making us pay money for a mode that should of been free with the disc.

Ahh, this is getting ridiculous. Difficulty modes have always been a regular part of most video games. Paying extra for a hard mode is just plain stupid.

I actually got to see a copy of Metro Last Light, and it comes with the Ranger Mode. Yep, not as a preorder, but as part of the "limited" edition, (which is actually the standard edition).

That shouldn't be too hard. I don't think this game will sell too quickly that I won't be able to find a copy after I get paid. After all, I can still find limited edition copies of Battlefield 3, Darkness 2, and Rage at all of the stores I go to, and those games were released a while ago.

Well, the "limited" edition of Metro Last Light is probably the only edition out there for the time being. Hell, the place where I found it was fucking Best Buy. I didn't bother checking Game Stop since I know that if it was at Best Buy, it'll surely be at Game Stop.
Battlefield 3 actually had two editions prior to the Premium one. One of them was the regular game, (which came with the all-important Online Pass only), and the other one, the "special edition," came with the code for the Back To Karkand pack.
While I do preorder certain games that catch my attention, it somewhat bothers me that shit that was supposed to be preorder exclusive gets included with ALL copies of that game on launch day anyway.

If the Ranger mode DLC is packed in with the limited edition rather than being a retail provided pre-order code, than I'm not that broken up over it. This seems more like an incentive for people to buy the game new rather than used, in the same vein as the EA online passes, but tuned for single-player games. I'm not what you'd call fond of this practice, but since I won't be forced to pay extra money, I won't bitch about it. At any rate, it's still better than the slew of preorder bonuses and the Day 1 DLC for Mass Effect 3 where you actually had to pre-order from retail stores, or buy a more expensive copy of the game to get them for "free".

True enough.
At least with the Online Passes, if you're fortunate enough to get a new copy, that Pass can be redownloaded in the future, should you trade your game and buy it again later on.
While it is true that there is an incentive to buy a game new, most aren't going to shell out the $60+ for it, (granted, most would've preordered and paid it off by launch day anyways), so most shops, Game Stop being the notable example, offer buying the game used at a lower priced as a better incentive. Although, it is worth noting that for some games, before and a bit after they are launched, Game Stop will offer a bit more credit if you trade your games and/or accessories to buy that new game.
For me, as much as I would love to have Metro Last Light, I'll wait until some of the games I have now have been outplayed, and perhaps until payday.
I've already got Battlefield 4 and Watch Dogs on preorder, so I'm holding off on buying games for the time being. Until I pay off those two anyways.
