VR, AR and the future

How do you think Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and other technologies like the Neuralink will change the future of gaming, entertainment and other aspects of life? When will we get closer to something like Full immersion VR like seen in Sword Art Online?

Having read many articles from Ray Kurzweil, I've become interested in speculating on these topics. The futurist expects 2029 to be the year of the AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), and 2045 to be the year of some kind of Artificial Super Intelligence and the technological singularity.

I'm interested in a discussion about the future and these technologies, and how they could change gaming, TV, hentai, porn, sex, entertainment in general and society as a whole.

This is a topic I'm very interested in as well. This kind of advancements fascinate me, and I'd like to work on that field some day.
Sword Art Online, even if the story's quality is regarded by most viewers as bad to awful, did spark this interest in me with a very interesting premise. Since then, I've been wondering about all these applications.

If evidence shows us anything is that porn has a lot of influence in this kind of stuff, and probably will always be a huge boost for technological advancements of this sort. That's not my main interest in this case but I do admit that the possibility of experiencing someone else's body as their sexual pleasure at that (and even more so, a body of the opposite sex) is an idea that sounds very intriguing to me.

Neuralink sounds like a very exciting idea, but I have no idea what to expect quite yet.

I encourage you guys to share your thoughts as well!

This kind of stuff has also interested me since .hack//SIGN was one of my first anime and it's a cool concept. Maybe unnecessary, but this kind of technology could also possibly be used for more than just games. For example, similar to how VRChat is a bunch of servers, it's possible businesses could have private servers and hold "deep dive VR" (idk what to call it) conference calls with other businesses instead of just using the phone or webcam. I'm just sad that I'll probably be like 40 or 50 by the time this stuff actually gets good.

There is this game coming out sometime that looks neat though; makes me wish I had a good computer and VR.

Does look pretty neat indeed.

You reminded me of Summer Wars with that business approach. Only this would really be VR.
Also with the other applications, SAO did bring another good idea on the second season with the Mother's Rosario arc. If you can give this kind of escape experience to patients with terminal illnesses, or who just can't go out. Sounds like a very cool idea to me.

I'm also hyped for sexbots and how they will evolve within the next 10 years. Don't forget that technology is accelerating. A sexbot of your dreams paired with photorealistic graphics in VR... I would immediately buy my perfect copy of a Black Desert Online elf. If quantum computers get a boost in the next few years anything could become possible, maybe even your wildest dreams in VR.

Definitely something I'm looking forward to. I might not consume it myself but it is something I'd like to become real.

If you told me in 2007 or so that you cuould go on chat rooms and be your own avatars, I would have thought you were crazy.
If you would have told me in 2011, that in the future you can play with a virtual dog and actually see yourself petting the dog or playing fetch, I would have thought you were crazy.
If you would have told me a few years ago that POV VR porn would be a thing, I would have laughed at your face.

And yet all of this has come through, and now I have to say I am very curious on the idea of Virtual Reality or Augmented Reality. As a sports fan, I could see the possibilities: You could experience a live event, right from your home. Or you be in the shoes of your favorite player during the plays. Maybe even be in a competitive sports league (maybe like Alita?).

As for porn, I mean clearly you live out your wildest fantasies: Tentcles, Monsters, Futa, Catgirls, etc. And I would think that the ultimate goal is to have sex with another person never leaving your house of having to deal with the social constructs of life in general.

It suck that by the time such things would be invented, I will be either dead, too old to really use it, or too mature to use it full capabilities

Exactly, technology evolved at rapid speed, and I believe there is a realistic chance you'll not be too old when these technologies arrive. I really hope that for myself and anyone. Everyone should have the possibility to express their sexuality without shame and social constructs and technology with finally be able to grand us that. Sex is natural and essential like healthy food and clear water, yet society somehow destroyed this heavenly thing throughout history.

I mean, I'm already glad that we have all of it in 2D. But it's still not enough to really satisfy our need of love and sexuality.

AI and a singularity might even be the only thing that can save humanity.

Looks like there is a new "law" in the making. Quantum Computers might skyrocket in power this year.

I dont we will get a sword art online type vr for a long time but vr is getting really advanced and im excited to see what itll be like in 5+ years

The biggest bar of entry to VR/AR and so on is how low or high the bar of entry is for casual users. Until we get something super casual like Angry Birds on something that doesn't involve a bulky headset that you have to wear before playing anything, I don't think VR will ever take off in the mainstream.

I'm not sure it should, though.

According to gabe it's a lot closer than you think.

I often heard here that people are too old until technology is ready. But this is wrong. The nature of your body doesn't matter in VR, should it ever be so far that you no longer have to move physically.

When I see how fast VR is going, I'm thrilled. There are already test glasses where you can only move things in games with your thoughts.
Oculus Quest, you can already play in beta without a controller (I have it)
It is only a matter of time before you no longer have to move. Only how to feel touch turns out to be difficult for me.

The porn industry is also one of the reasons why something is developing in this direction. I would almost say, just because of the porn industry, something is still happening. It will take a few more years for VR to grow up outside of porn. 2 or 5th or 20th
But the day will come.
Check out HL Alyx. That is potential. Incredible. And once it is there, I prefer to spend the inevitability in an VR world as an old man than to die. Shall you hang my brain on it? That's the future. Let’s bed we’ll experience it.

There was an article from Gabe saying that VR is the future, traditional forms of media are going to be left behind. He also stated that Valve is heavily invested in AR/VR applications specifically stuff like https://www.neuralink.com/ and how it can be applied to gaming.

Experiencing 2D and 3D hentai in full-dive VR would be perfect. They're millions of 2D hentai girls out there, and being able to meet every single one of them in VR and doing what we want with them would be beyond amazing. In fact this is only one possibility with AI and technology. The sexual possibilities could be endless.
