oh my god, the australian dollar is stronger than the US dollar because australia has minerals to export plain a simple. US does not minerals and makes most of their surplus from the trade market (wall street banking). Because the global recession fucked over the trade markets this is why the american dollar has fallen so much and the australian hasn't.
While australia might've not been hit directly by the global recession like the US and the UK, it still is hit in it's export and import sectors. Because the Australian dollar is so high and the US so low that means mineral exports (the key money maker for australia) make less because the US isn't able to buy more because their dollar is so weak. Australia is lucky they still have China as a primary market to export but the US is still a massive trading partner to them and this is why they're in rescission.
China faced a similar problem, when the US dollar fell so much. To counter this so they could keep the US and other countries to keep on buying exports from them they've basically illegally controlled the value of their dollar (the yuan) to remain low.

Spoiler:
I will just point out, australia ISN'T in recession.. it was one of the only countries to be barely hit by it.
We are stronger than america dollar wise... fuel is like 83cents or something a barrel.. yet it's till $1.49 here? absurd
But anyway, our prices are still way too high considering how strong our dollar is, and how well our economy or how 'well' our economy is doing...
Etc.. would post more, but gf is rushing me.. Don't really know all that much anyway, so eh.. aboves probably not even right, but it sounded right to me.. feel free to correct or what not
facepalm, do you have no idea of how simple globalization of market forces work?
i aint even gonna waste my time, nigg you should just stick to cars.

[No single fuck. I pretend to know, I hear bits as I go.. So I put them together and get angry over what I hear.. aside from the fact the government spent all our surplus on pointless shit, which in turn has created higher tax prices.. I don't know much :3Liberal government: Gave us a $53million surplus, and we were running strong
Labour: $73billion in debt.. but we have NBN and other various things going.. so it's not too bad... but taxes still is annoying
I don't know, maybe it's called a global recession for a reason. Countries actually going into debt because of the worst financial crisis since the great depression? OH HOW ABSURD HOW DARE THEY.

This has nothing to do with politics, and i don't really care for it. Anyway i am not to concerned about the tax thing~Its the fact that we have a "flourishing economy" but we are still paying more and more for everything that i do not understand. That isn't politics that is money mongering.
The carbon tax only taxes the big companies yes that is simple. But what do they do in response? The obvious thing in profit making, they rise prices to meet their quota's. I don't know politics but i understand business. Everyone beneath those big companies follow suit to do the same, and the people who suffer are the people at the bottom. Because of the "politics" you speak of people are losing their jobs and homes. THIS IS NOT for the people, the very people they are supposed to be in power to help.
Can you reason out the following
200% tax on cigarettes saying it for is for "health reasons"
100% increase on fuel prices
25% on all food
75% increase on all housing
50% increase on cars
8 month waiting on medical treatment
The list goes on and they all pay out to the government in percentage. All our government is doing is lining their coffers and doing nothing. I don't mean to sound stupid but that is how it is. Most people here can barely afford to live, the age group i am in are looking at being stuck in renting for the rest of their lives. Not to mention debt to god only knows what.
But i wouldn't expect people who do not live here to understand that, I am getting too serious over nothing~
To be noted, i have said my bit, i dislike serious discussion :P
200% tax on cigs - um hello!? This is to discourage people from buying cigarettes because they're too expensive. Last time i heard smoking caused cancer, liver failure and killed people. If you think this is a money-grabbing act by the government then you've just got a massive tin foil hat on.
100% increase of fuel prices - uh again, global recession, not the government's fault here. It doesn't help that the Iranians are embargoing their oil either, which supplies 70% of the world's oil supplies.
25% on all food - Well considering how much wages you actually get in Australia even at minimum wage, your income relative to food prices is still like one of the best in the world so you can stfu about this one. Also pretty sure those Queensland flood damages don't pay for itself, somethings gotta give way.
50% increase in cars - Okay, now you've gone from conspiracy theorist to a fucking idiot. Since when does the government control the price of cars rofl. They can regulate and control it's practices, but they can't tell the market what set prices they can sell cars for.
8-month waiting on medical treatment - Now this one is just ignorant and selfish. This is not the governments fault AGAIN holy shit, it's the fault of there not being enough doctors and medical staff to meet demand.
In conclusion it's people like you who fucking irritate me, you have no idea what you're on about and fit the stereotype of the fucking clueless general public that make democracy a faulty system. Every time you see a social issue or a problem you automatically think it's the governments fault, you think the government some kind of ultimate deus ex machine and blame them when they're not even at fault. Most of the issues and problem you've brought up have nothing to do with the government. You're not getting serious, you're getting retarded.
