By the way, I am not too IT savvy, so if I need help removing the toolbar from my internet explorer someday, I would need to seek advice from you people. Then again, I only use internet explorer for downloads while Opera, my main browser, remains "toolbar-less".
And on that note, how harmful is said spyware?
It's a browser hijacker. If I remember right. It will change your browser settings, your homepage, bookmarks etc kind of like the Coolwwwsearch hijackers but not as bad. If I remember right. It'll go into you're history see what you've been too and it's a tracker so it follows you around the web recording what you go to. This
May lead to trojans accessing you more easily. or so I've heard. One thing in particular to watch out for is XP police. If you ever see that it has been installed on your computer and starts running a scan by itself without you telling it to and it says you have this virus and that key login and that registry key etc it's lying. XP police is a malware I think. I've had it a few times. It's pretty common right now. It will ask you to register etc and tell you that a IP is trying to access you but that's all lies. it just wants you to enter a credit card number cause it's a scam. It can't be removed by normal means and can cause harm to your computer. It will pop up every 5-10 minutes. The only way that v I know of removing it besides deleting the files manually is using spybot S&D. It gets rid of it just fine.
It's considered spyware because it collects information on you. Spybot will disagree with it if you have spybot installed previously and then try to install the toolbar. That's cause spybot registers it as a spyware tool. So my advise is to stay away from it. You know somethings wrong when a anti spyware cleaner disagrees with something. BTW Ad aware might not pick it up like spybot will. You can just google "Megaupload toolbar spyware" for more information.
EDIT : Also if you want to uninstall the toobar just open your browser > tools > add on's > uninstall.
actually the only thing it SHOULD do is to track the websites you have visited ans stuff like this...al written in the EULA actually.
but since I don´t use it I don´t know if it does more.
and as for the uninstall...you will have to perform some more actions to get rid of it as it also creates a registry entry
