DBZ Live Action Movie
0
James Wong will be directing the live-action adaptation of Dragon Ball Z for 20th century fox and Ariel Shaw will do special FX. The main storyline will be the fight between Goku and Piccolo just like the anime. Casting has already taken place, Justin Chatwin is starring as Goku, while James Marsters will play Piccolo. Shooting begins in January and will take place in Durango, Mexico and other various locations in Mexico. I'll keep you guys updated with anything new.

Back on topic: I didn't know that anyone was even thinking about this. I think many many people will watch it. I will, just for the lulz of watching a DBZ live action movie. I'll keep an eye out for any information that I may come across also.

Didn't they try this years ago and turn out a steaming pile? I'm pretty sure I remember there being a really bad DBZ live action movie made in Japan awhile back.

My opinions on this are mixed; on the one hand I really really hate DBZ for its' utter lack of any kind of plot. On the other hand if they can pull this off it could easily be the next Matrix. I guess we'll just have to wait for the trailers to start coming out before we can start to judge.

See, shit like this is why I hate Hollywood. God. Fucking. Damn it.

I predict a movie of the same level of quality that Street Fighter the movie achieved, simply awesome.

I'm generally hesitant of animated things being made into live action in general.
Anyone see the Fist of the North Star live action stuff? It really wasn't very good from what I remember, nothing like the anime(which was awesome).

This sounds bad and corny... Hollywood is another world when you work in the industry, they act like they're not making a shitty film. (this isn't just towards DBZ, but most movies that have flopped and is terrorbad).

For one, it died out ages ago, another it was only ever popular with kids and anime fags like us, and another, Japanese movies in general, yet alone a movie that will barely succeed in Japan, will never be popular in the rest of the world.
Honestly, it won't come out in Australia or England, if you're very lucky it might make a short appearance in America quickly to be taken off due to lack of interest after the first few days. On the intarweb I'm sure it'll have a short round of popularity, but I can't say it'll be any more popular as a single live action movie than the current mainstream anime.

Transformers, anyone?
People don't stop being fans just because a series isn't on the air anymore, and I can name at least six people in my karate class alone who can go on at length about how awesome DBZ was.
Now I don't know whether this'll be a blockbuster hit, and I don't plan on placing any bets until I see--at the very least--a teaser trailer, but I do know this: people who grew up on Star Trek will flock to theaters for a new Star Trek movie, and by the same token anyone who watched and loved DBZ--or even people who didn't necessarily like it, like me--will pay through the nose to see this if the trailers impress them enough. The first impression is the key to success on opening night; after that, it's all up to the quality of the movie and the reviewers.

Obviously you've never heard of Akira.

Okay, I see your point there with Transformers. And yes, I agree with you on Akira. But there just is nowhere as many DBZ fans as Star Trek fans (IMHO).
Lol @ karate class. But of course DBZ would be a bit popular in the martial arts, in my karate class I've got a couple fans as well.
I simply don't see how super saiyan fighting with kamehamehas and so on will ever succeed in live action - I loved the anime, though.
We'll just have to see how they do and maybe you'll be right, maybe I'll be right.

just in case that wasn't enough: piccolo looks like a green vampire. this movie will be a disaster of epic proportions. just imagine, goku powering up his spirit bomb will take at least two more movies to complete.

On a more serious note, I looked into it and found the IMDB link:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1098327/
From the sounds of it its POSSIBLE that it may not be constipated DBZ but rather based on the original Dragonball series which in my opinion was absolutely great.
Now I just wish I could find a preview trailer. I'm definitely going to watch this, if only just for laughs though I'm pretty sure it won't last more than a week.
Update:
IMDB wrote...
[Based on] The King Piccolo Saga [Dragonball], also known as the Piccolo Daimaoh Saga (Demon Lord Piccolo Saga) is the penultimate saga from the anime Dragon Ball. It occurs after the Tien Shinhan Saga and precedes the Piccolo Junior Saga. It includes the battles between Goku and King Piccolo's sons, Goku's first encounter with the Samurai warrior, Yajirobe, Goku's quest to find the Holy Water, his final battle with young King Piccolo, and the birth of Piccolo Junior
There you go.

This movie is suppose to be comming out this summer and they haven't even finished casting which means it's gonna be a piece of crap rush job, and the special effects might be ok but i predict a crappy script and terrible acting!

Plot Outline: "A young boy named Goku seeks out upon his grandfather's dying request to find the great Master Roshi and gather all seven Dragon Balls (of which he has one) in order to prevent Piccolo from succeeding in his desire to use the Dragon Balls to take over the world."
Blech, old stuff.
Well, I suppose it's normal because the series itself isn't fit even if it's simplified and could make at least 5-6 hours of a movie with fastened and not-focused storyline.

wow, interesting casting...
i've only watched one live action remake of a anime that i've liked and that's death note.
