I am curious to know whether there is an online function.
In the arcade, you could co-op with strangers. Hopefully, the same can be said for the console port of the above title.

Yes, it has online and offline co-op. Iron Galaxy is in charge of the games online functions.
They are the ones who did other Capcom titles like Street Fighter 3rd Strike: Online Edition, Marvel vs. Capcom: Origins, and, the recently released, Darkstalkers Resurrection.
