Working out/excercise discussion
Who works out/excercises, and for how long per week?
0
I've noticed some people work out here, me being one of them. Since I got questions to ask, I figure it would be worth setting up a poll/thread for this. I kinda want to know how many people in a hentai community keep fit by working out or excercising, and how much and often do they do it. As another person who works out, I'm also interested in what's considered ideal workout/excercise routines and frequency.
On a weekly basis, I work out at my local gym of over 4700 square feet for three days a week, 2 hours 10 minutes for Tues/Thurs and 2 and a half hours to 3 hours on Saturday. I mainly do strength toning than bulking and work out each day my overall body: the legs, the abs, the chest/back, and shoulders/arms in 2 or 3 sets of 10 reps. Then I also get in my cardio/calorie-burnoff excercise by going on the stepper for a 100 calories, occasionally doing the treadmill or rowing machine. I usually spend the last 5-10 minutes of my workout at the boxing corner practicing form and technique. I'm also beginning to go on my treadmill every other day that's not my workout day for an half hour to burn off 200 calories. I used to be 239 lbs in mid August and in mid October I hit 224 lbs. Hoping to reach 200 by beginning of January and I'm also combating my weight through a diet/less food intake. Protein bars and bananas have become a staple in diet as well, and I more or less stopped eating after 10PM. I'm pretty hungry most of the time, which I try to stop with trident xylitol-containing gum.
So, feel free to share your workout/excercise schedule and dieting opinions. I for one am curious to see if the otaku community actually does more than the everyday functions and light excercise.

Walking from and to college is the only exercise I get these days. Work and assignments have taken most of my free time away.
Sad thing is that winter's coming so my only exercise right now is going down the drain.
I miss summer.

Walking towards the University is an exercise? I dunno, it usually takes me around 15-30 min. But I sometimes take the long way and it takes me around an hour or so...
But I do exercise sometimes. A few Push ups, squat thrusts and Sit ups, 2-4 times a week is what I usually do. If i'm really in the mood to exercise, I do each of them towards 100 and above.
But here's the funny part. When i'm feeling crazy and and I wanna do exercises, I do the kind of indoor exercises that I see in History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, Full Contact and other mangas.
Oh yeah. I also did Badminton and once won third place, doubles in a contest. After that, badminton became one of my fave hobbies, third to Surfing the net and Reading xD
Yeah, I know. It's hazardous and physically impossible.... some of them xD

The poll isn't exactly identical, but the theme of this particular thread is similar to that of the following:

Time is scarce for me so on a daily basis, its usually a couple sets of stretches and lots of walking. I get on the stepper twice a week on weekdays and rollerblade or jog with my preschooler during the weekends; if the weather permits. On and off, I dance and play netball. If I'm stuck at home in the earlier part of the day, I'll be chasing after my little runt. But that doesn't qualify as an exercise does it? ^^

P.E. is a mandatory subject for everyone as awesome Sweden don't think we know what we want to do with out bodies.
I avoid excerices at all cost, it just ain't something that I would deem necessary. Still get about 20-40 minutes daily from going to school, so I guess I maintain my lifestyle just fine.
I also expect there will be a huge interest in implants/modifications to help against predicted illnesses that may strike against the computer generation, and I expect those needs will be fullfilled soon enough as there will be huge money for whoever solves those problems.
I'd much rather walk around with a badass metalic spine in the future then running around in ADHD-like ways in the woods or whatever keeps ones body up to date.

I try to work out and I really want to, but it's just so hard to do with work and school. By the time I get some spare time, I want to use it by doing absolutely nothing, or sleeping. Ah, sleep... how I miss you so.
Sometimes I lay around on the floor while watching tv doing all sorts of stomach crunches, some with my legs straight in the air, some with bicycle kicks, some of those quad ones.. etc. Yea... oh, I do some arm excercises too by lifting them into the air, or doing circular motions with them.
I miss going to the gym.

2 Hours of strength training each day. Excluding Sunday.
2 Hours of cardiovascular exercise a week.
Not only am I Mr. Vain, but also a personal trainer. I was planning on making a thread about this sooner or later, but you beat me to it! Though, I was planning to offer advice more so than poll about it.
Anywho, Great topic. I want to hear more!
For the record TS, "Strength toning" is a loose term and makes no actual sense. x]

@GourmetPrince: Well, I prefer "toning" to "bulking" because I'm not in it to increase overall muscle mass but rather to get it up to a level and keep it that way. I normally don't increase the weight per next set, favoring repetition than increasment.
On another note, you do 2 HOURS of strength training everyday, except Sunday. I'm assuming you work on different sets of muscles per day, or else there's just no possible way to work out everyday without hurting the overworked muscles. I usually do a full body workout, but every other day.
Then I have a question, since you're a personal trainer yourself: what is considered an ideal workout routine on a weekly basis, e.g. how many times per for how long and do what?

I swim everyday for a few hours and run 2 miles everyweek (one on tuesday another on friday), push-up, pull-ups, etc. It's not that much but I work too so it's not like I have time for everything... overall I stay pretty fit.

You are correct. It's different muscle groups, and different exercises each day. Usually with 2 days of rest in between groups (1 if I'm bad, which I usually am.)
As for your own personal routine, everyone wants something different. Without examination, provide me with as much information as you can about which parts of your body you wish to improve upon. If it's all parts of the body, let me know which parts are weaker and which parts may be stronger. For example, you may have killer legs, but a not so killer upper body. Next, I'll need to know if your determined to stick to a good routine. If you're often busy it'll be hard to get a healthy plan into your schedule, but it can still work out. Also, throw in your height, weight, and what you're doing now, as well as what equipment you have available.
The ideal routine is based upon what your goal is. If your goal is to get big, you'll have a totally different routine from an individual who just wants to improve on a particular athletic performance.
As for the whole "toning" and "bulking" mess. Toning really doesn't mean much. Most people think of toning as burning off body fat. Which...isn't toning, and is rather just burning off body fat. Women's magazines spew the word Tone over and over without ever really giving you a solid definition. Bulking is obviously gaining mass, increasing weight, usually with the intent of pure muscle mass. The term toning hasn't particularly secured it's place with many legitimate fitness experts. To make it simple, when someone says to me they want to get "toned". I have no clue what they're talking about. If they tell me they want to gain muscle, while keeping a low body fat percentage, I know exactly what they're talking about.
