Big Bang Theory

I love this comedy show. It shows the life of nerds in a very funny way. I just finished season two. I don:t know if it:s alredy placed here but I searched and found nothing. Here's a clip

Hate it personally. The four episodes I watched a little while back were stereotypical, inaccurate and not very funny. I realise concessions have to be made to keep it funny for everyone, but there's a similar and older (and award-winning :P) program in the UK called The IT Crowd, which is funnier and still plays on/throws in some geeky stuff.

I think it's pretty funny. But the whole hot girl falls for a nerd thing is like, come on, really?

I've watched it out of boredom and found it to be alright, but I think they've stepped away from some of the nerd stuff (thankfully). When it first started, the show tried to throw around all sorts of references, but nothing felt real. But after a while, the show started to just focus on how crazy/pathetic some of the people are, and it got better.

It still pisses me off though, because all the guys who like nerdy things are super smart. I'm tired of geniuses in my show, and it is not true in any way that just because you like games and comics, you must be a genius that had no friends growing up.

I actually love this show. Pretty laced with geekiness and sardonic sarcasm. Especially Sheldon.

I feel the same way too at times the show is very stereotypical, but it's still a enjoyable show to watch most of the time.

Wait, what? When does the "whole hot girl falls for a nerd thing" happen in the show? It never really happens between two recurring characters, iirc.



From my point of view, I thought the geeky references were pretty good quite a lot of the time, barring those to obscure theories. Focusing on how "crazy/pathetic some of the people are" pretty much follows the same rough formula as any sitcom out there though, so it was a nice change for me. Still love it as it is right now though.

And while I do agree with your point on the stereotype, that is what they are; stereotypes. Bearing in mind that the plot revolves around four geniuses who have doctorates and various other degrees and qualifications, the fact that they like "nerdy things" just suits the profile and makes the show a little more believable, at least to the producers/writers/general public etc. While perhaps not morally right, it is how the studios sell shows, and the truth is often stranger than fiction. One could take things the other way and say "I'm sick of -insert distinguishable group- in my show, and it is not true in any way that just because you like -insert thing fitting above stereotype-, you must be a -insert distinguishable group- that was -insert adjective fitting above stereotype - while -insert time period-", or something to that effect.

tl;dr It's a nice break from all the formulaic shows on TV.
