Serious question for atheists
-11
Why do atheists feel the need to scrutinize religion? It's fine if atheists don't want to believe in God, but why do they have to try to tear other people away from him?

I don't "tear away" people from their beliefs. Neither do the majority of atheists, as far as I've noticed.
I like to point out the reasons why I don't find religion plausible in the least bit except as a source of hope for the less fortunate in the world. The same applies for the majority of atheists, I assume. We just like to base our hopes in something that can present solid evidence and reason.
When you say that atheists like to scrutinize religion, I hope you realize that the reverse also happens.
And you should change the "religion" that you used to Christianity/Catholicism, because as far as I know, those are the only religions that refer to their higher deity as "God". Unless you're referring to Allah, at which you should have specified.
EDIT: How do you have negative posts? o.o

I believe I said "majority" soon afterwards. Or are you the type that likes to find something in other people's arguments and point them out, thinking that addressing that single point will make you seem smarter? Or do you think that you can prove your point that way?

Scrutinizing, yes. But I was talking about "tearing" away. Which you seem to have failed to notice. Thus making this point invalid.
Honestly, after seeing this reply and the one you made at the other thread to GinIchimaru, I honestly can't tell if you're serious or trollin. And if it's either of the two, you're doing a horrible job at it.
EDIT: Excuse my failure to specify, PD. I was talking about the monotheistic religions, as JuiceBox is referring to a monotheistic religion. Also, by calling the deity "God", I mean that they specifically say the phrase "God".

Well I was going to avoid posting here but after seeing this I had to point something out. If this is what you’re talking about then what you’re saying is you don’t like it when atheists give their opinion on god? It’s just like if a religious person said “I like to point out the reasons why I find religion plausible.” If this is your argument then I think it’s a little shaky. Atheists just want people to understand why they don’t believe as people who do believe what people to know why they believe so maybe they will “see the light” so to speak. Both sides just want the best for everyone.
Also I would like to point out the Godless heathen thing and chop it up to either supposed to be funny or you’re a crazy fanatic I hope it’s the first one.

They believe in the trinity. :P Also, according to Wikipedia there are 14 (unless you count out Christianity because of my explaination which makes it 13) monotheistic religions. You should know one of them very well called Judaism. Don't be hatin' on the Jews. >_>
@JuiceBox47:
Like Catcher says, this argument isn't the best, since religions like to "tear them away" from being atheists as well.

Im absolutely horrible at explaining things so forgive me if this makes no sense.
Most do not but many feel as if religion is corrupting society. Im not saying religion is wrong, infact I find it great that you believe in something. Its just when you start bringing your own ideas in mix with religious ideas for no reason then its problem. I live in a very religious area and some times i get into moral arguments about something unrelated to religion with people. When I ask how can they think like that they say "Its because the bible says so" That right there ticks me off because I allways follow up with this question. "Do you think that because you want to or because the bible tells you to believe it" No one can ever answer that question making me think they dont have a free mind. To me religion is a plague to most individuals that warps their own thinking and even begin to become hypocritical about many moral issues. Religion is also such a broad idea into what created the world. It has caused wars (although i fully understand this is 99.9% of religious people) It just warps too many people thinking. In the end I can say I would Scrutinize religion just those who have had their minds stolen by it and cant be free minded and religious at the same time.
As for my beliefs I think there is something I just dont know what. Nothing can be given as good fact to me when theres so much evidence supporting most and against most major religions. I came to the conclusion that they all stem from some long long idea and are all correct in its own way. Also all preach the same goal of peace which I like. I like the ideas and concepts teached in religion just not the way people handle it.
Just as many regions try to recruit us (Mainly by telling us our soul will be saved) We try to give reason to others so they may be free thinking. To many religious people I know who dont handle religion the wrong way I normally dont do this too since they are ok in my book. Religion isnt hindering those people in anyway. Now those people who go around saying (You shouldn't do that cause the bible says.....) Those are the people I try to talk to. Some become so closed minded they dont listen to facts presented to before them. I try what I can but it often fails even though sometimes I have succeeded and have seen that person become much much happier in life.
TL;DR = As long as you dont handle religion in a bad way that it effects your thinking process, everyday actions, and moral reasoning I have no problem with them.

If atheists just want religion out of their lives, then why do they put so much focus on other people's religions?
Theists can't pick apart your religion because you don't have one. You're like that one neutral country who refuses to pick a side and fight the war.

I don't think JuiceBox is helping his case by generally being more of a troll than a debater.
Still, I don't understand why some supporters of atheism(spilling over from the respect thread) here seem to believe that religious people expressing their views in public forums is inappropriate and unwanted interference while atheists expressing their views in public forums is paramount to some noble search for free thought. Of course, any person who switches atheism and theism in this case is equally mistaken.
Hitchens writes "God is not Great." Rick Warren writes "The Purpose Driven Life." One might conform more to your world view than the other, but they are both the same thing: public expressions and arguments in favor of the beliefs of the authors.
Exactly, they are the same thing, whether you choose to call it preaching, the search for truth, free speech, or whatever else. What you argue has no impact on the fact that you are arguing in a public forum.
Free speech allows people to express and argue for their beliefs in public. That is the way society(at least in the US where I live) is, and I am perfectly fine with that. If one's belief in something is so weak that merely hearing dissenting opinions is enough to shake the foundation of the belief, I think it is necessary to re-examine and either strengthen or discard the beliefs in question, depending on the results of one's thoughts and introspection.

Here's the deal:
1) Atheists see that religion is a part of a lot of shit. People try to bring religion into public school, the courtroom, politics, and pretty much everything.
2) Atheists believe that it is wrong to involve religion with that shit.
3) Atheists try to denounce religion and get people to not be religious so that religion will not be a part of public school, the courtroom, blah blah blah.
Generally, that's it, at least in America. One of the principles of the country is separation of church and state, but a lot of religious people want to make religion a part of things that should be monitored by the state. The way to stop that shit? Get rid of religion.
Note: A very rough explanation of why some atheists act the way they do, but it's more than JuiceBox deserves, since he is, as WhiteLion says, acting more like a troll than a debater.

They seem to go like this: Troll-Amusing-Troll-Amusing-Troll-Troll-Amusing-Amusing
And in most cases I've seen, atheists only start a big argument over the truth in religion when they get branded by large religious groups as "Sodomites" and "Godless Heathens" in what is one of the few cases where the real world can get trolled.
On the other hand, the atheists that go out of their way to denounce religion and pass that message on to the masses are just as bad.

Why i feel like 'scrutinize religion'? Because they can't shut up about it, i would never talk about religions/atheism if they weren't such a pain. I remember last chrismass, where a group of arabian were protesting agains't Quebec prime minister because he called the chrismass tree a chrismass tree. Blabla, it's descriminating for us, bla bla bla. It happen all the freaking time here, and it's not only arabian.

I'm Buddhist. I don't give a fuck about your religion. If you are getting the most out of your life, then you picked a good religion.

why does the pope try to preach his dirty teachings to mindless sheep? Why does he feel like he can tear people away from logic and the inherently apparent? All these stupid religions with their 'teachings' and 'morals' are nothing but grotesque monstrosities. These 'religions' were not meant to survive in an advanced society with cars, and airplanes, and science. The people who use their everyday appliances without even knowing how they work are ignorant enough to believe in something that can't be seen, felt, or communicated with, with any of our 5 senses. People are uneducated, uncultured, and we have created a society so bizzare, where the stupid survive and breed, and the intelligent are shoved beneath the population. It makes no sense. Why should the superior be forced under the inferior? We are inhibiting evolution's progression. Evolution wants the people who can figure things out to survive, while the people who can't understand anything and look to an invisible being for help survive too. Its BLASPHEMY!
@illumi: its people like you who make up this world that make me want to scream. "I don't give a fuck about your religion" that is so fucking DUMB, and STUPID on so many levels it can barely be called a statement made by a human. Saying that is like saying "I believe in an invisible being called Jennifer and I don't give a fuck about your religion even if more than a fair share of the world's population practices it." And besides, most people don't pick their religions. They are born into families that practice it.
People with this mentality fuck up this world.
*EDIT* ok im sorry, i didn't mean that to be so harsh.. when i get on a rant i cant stop

I ever learn the theology of Christian, in fact they say "respect Atheists", because we all are the same and they do have something to believe for.
While people fight for something that they believe, it's very great. The worst is those who believe everything that told to him.
I ever gone to the anti-christ(or whatever it is) world, the main problem of this religion is one, its try to combine all of the religion, and yes it is the most wrong thing.
