I just saw a trailer for this on my tv and I thought that it seemed like a good movie so I was wondering what everyone else thought about it.

I remember seeing a trailer about this movie a long time ago and the trailer sucked because it told you nothing at all, there was only one scene with the aliens at the end. Now though I have seen a lot of trailers and I may go see it depends if any of my friends will want to see it.

When I first heard about it, I was really interested, but after seeing the trailers and TV spots, I've completely lost interest. It just seems too simple.
Aliens land on earth, with no intention of hurting humanity. Government treats them like shit, makes them seem like bad guys. Some people figure out the truth and try to get the masses to understand that the aliens aren't bad or dangerous.
It feels like that sort of thing's been done to death, and I don't care enough about pretty graphics to pay to see it again.

Well since the movies at theaters tend to cost so much when buying tickets for them also when your buying popcorn or soda that it makes me rarely go out and see them. So I just prefer to wait till the come out on DVD and I can just rent them using Netflix. Anyways from the trailers I thought that what the aliens were doing was they say they wanted peace but they're intentions were bad, I don't know maybe I just didn't see all the stuff that you saw.

I went to the midnight release, when I saw the trailer I said I have to see this movie, and it also made me say "What?" After the movie I'm still saying "What?" but it's a brilliant movie none the less.

I saw this today and it was freaking awesome.
I didn't realize it at first, but it is completely obvious now, that District 9 was produced by the man who directed Dead Alive, the goriest film ever created!

I felt cheated. I was expecting a mockumentary on the political and social implications of alien contact. Instead I got a bait and switch with a stupid Enemy Mine plot. I hated Welkes he was a dick through and through. The metaphors and allegories the director was trying to make comparing the aliens to the native South Africans fell apart when he made the most of them mindless freaks in a constant rage. Then brought in the psychotic Nigerians and made real black people look bad. I'm not going to make a full rant because it's too late and I'm feeling incoherent. So I'll simplify.
First part was OK, expected Welkes to die.
Second part was stupid. Wanted Welkes to die.
Aliens a really poor allegory for abused Africans.
Poorly named MNU generic evil corp had piss poor security and were uninteresting strawmen.
On the mockumentary gimmick, why bother at all if you're not going to stick with it?
Started out original but ultimately fell apart.

...way to spoil some stuff...
[size=7] unless all of that was honestly obvious from the start of the movie, which I doubt[/h]

This movie was AMAZING! I didn't think it was going to be as intriguing as it appeared in the trailer, but it went beyond my expectations. The documentary setup into the film was perfect, and I really felt for the alien characters, for a change.
So if you haven't seen it yet...do so now!

Watched it today. The movie did a fine job as an entertainment piece, but failed as a propaganda piece.
