The movies of today...

Series that we believed were over are getting undeserved/very late sequels, as proven by the production of Ghostbusters 3, Bad boys 3, scream 4...
Series that were completed or started are getting a reboot, ignoring whatever the previous series set as rules/storylines, like the Nightmare on elm street series, Spider-man, Halloween.....
A trilogy simply isn't enough today, now they want to milk a series as much as they can to dry us out of our hard earned money, and for what? Half-assed, shitty sequels?
Finding out that "scream" was getting a 4th chapter (with the same actors) pissed me off a lot, and at the moment, is probably the best example I can think of with Hollywood trying to milk anything they can to death. A series can no longer "simply die" it seems, if they feel like bringing it back from the grave, they will do it. What are people's thoughts as to what the movie industry is like today?

well, I'm particularly fine with "rebirths", if the story was GREAT, like The A-Team and Toy Story 3
but it is kinda worrying though, if it's going to be like this:
for example: (these are not REAL lol)
Forest Gump : A New Start
Gone with the Wind 2
The Sound of Music 2
Back To The Future 4 (I'll probably see this though) lol

Milking cows, most of them.
I honestly stopped watching most new movies, for the sheer fact that almost nothing seems interesting lately.
That said, not every "reboot/sequel/retelling" etc. are always bad or boring. Star Trek was pretty good and was one of the few movies I actually bothered to watch this year, and I was not disappointed in any way.
But for the most part, it seems movie industry, like a lot of industires lately, had hit a new level of greed and mediocrity. Although, it can be argued that it's what allows most of the "hit blockbusters" to be what they are.
In my personal opinion tough, what goes on in the movies is still somewhat acceptable, at least to me. You can't expect every movie you see to be a god-dammned masterpiece. And there are time periods when artists/creators run out of ideas, and for the better or worse, they turn to re-using the concepts they already did, until someone comes up with new, ground-breaking formula. Or it may be just wishful thinking on my part.
That I can't say about TV series. Some of them simply need to go off and die.

I disagree. It brings movies back that the younger generation would of missed.

Can't kids just watch older movies on DVD, or simply enjoy new movies that aren't just copies of stuff we already have? The movies they missed aren't gone, after all.

They might not even know these movies exist in the first place. Heck, Karate Kid came out 26 years ago. Rocky, 34 years ago.
When you were 14 (Or whatever the target age is), could you name movies that were released 26 or 34 years ago, that you weren't introduced to by school? I know I couldn't.

Of course, I knew quite a few old movies, my parents introduced me. Who else would? That well-bred hobo on the street corner with a penchant for the cinema? There are many ways to find out about old movies, and people like parents, teachers, even friends who found them before you, can show the way. Entirely remaking everything is a very extreme solution to a simple problem.

Speaking of late sequels, Has anybody seen The lost boys 2: The Tribe?
They took 22 years to make a shitty sequel, That is 2 f'ing decades!!
they had more than enough time to write a good script but NO they just
took there sweet time and ended up leaving us a big turd sandwich that even
twilight would laugh at.
But Toy story 3's plot is pretty good considering Andy is going to college like
most of us born in the 90's are doing now.

Spoiler:

Well said. An example of a great movie that I'm so glad I stumbled on: Clockwork orange. I cannot imagine that epic movie being remade today with different actors/director. Something like that cannot be "updated" with a new version. Who could beat Stanley Kubrick's directing and Malcolm Mcdowell's portrayal of Alex?
*Edit*
Aw wtf, Men in black 3? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1409024/
COME ON WHAT THE FUCK HOLLYWOOD. After 10 freaking years??

Alright, I concede on these points (rage mode lock/delete topic MOD ABUSE), but your parents, teacher, and friends couldn't of seen or remembered all the movies made before you were born.
Besides without remakes we wouldn't of gotten these fine films. (The Man Who Knew Too Much, Cape Fear, The Magnificent Seven, The Departed, A Fistful of Dollars, Father of the Bride, and Ocean's 11)
Or even the current Batman/Spider-man movies.
And then, every once in awhile you get a little gem like Scarface.

(and then I realize this topic is about sequels and not remakes....)

Lol, true. Well about reboots, the Batman series so far has been pretty good, especially The dark knight.

Alright, agreed there are some remakes that we should be thankful for, fair enough. As for sequels, I do agree on the Dark Knight. I really want to see another one, since so far it has been the best reboot I've seen. ...Of course, I base this more on Heath Ledger's performance than Christian Bale's. That said, one can only hope the second one has him starring opposite someone really talented, or he is going to drag that shit down.
