What kind of horror movies do you think is scarier?

Movies that involve serial killers, ghosts, or monsters?
For me, watching horror movies that involve ghosts(if well-made) tend to make me jump more than the others. However, films with serial killers can leave me feeling paranoid, since they are a tad bit more realistic and not nearly as impossible to encounter as the other two.

Nice. The whole movie in one commercial. No point in seeing it now.
The only horror movies that ever mindfucked me were "A Nightmare on Elm Street" and "The Ring". The former was more serial killer than ghost (invades people's dreams) and the latter was just ghost. I was really young when I saw them, by the way.

For someone who hasn't seen it, the trailer does seem like it has covered everything that's supposed to happen in the movie, but actually, there's a whole lot more going on in it than one might think.
Though, I'd have to agree that the trailer showed more than it should.
Also, which version of 'The Ring' did you watch? Japanese or American?

American. Don't care what the difference is, really. I can watch that movie today no problem. As a kid, I couldn't look at the chick's face.

I prefer serial killer types though I do like the occasional monster and ghost. Like Rbz said, Freddy was a rare combination of serial killer and ghost, so was Jason but I really like Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

I think the 'scariest' movies are those where you do not see anything.
Like Paranormal Activity and the first Blair Witch Project. Good movies.
I'm more into the whole Zombie genre though.

Movie that are suggestive are more scary, and the context has a role in the way you perceive the scary moments.
For me it was "The Eye" (the korean version),I lived in a boarding school at that time, and being one of the oldest, I was in charge of closing the doors and shut the lights once we were done watching the movie.
I can assure you walking in the wide hallways in the dark isn't fun after watching that movie.

I like all types of horror movies. Slasher films are fun to watch, mostly because of the death scene. I have never actually been scared from a slasher film. Obviously, it makes me jump at those pop out and scare you moments, but nothing that makes me want to grab a blanket and cover my head.
But psychological horror films are definitely the scariest of any. It doesn't matter if it involves ghosts or serial killers or even monsters. Movies that messes with your head is the best type of horror there is. Scares you shitless. Hell even some games do a great job at that. Play F.E.A.R or Dead Space and try not shitting your pants.

I've been a horror fan for far longer than I've been into anime and Zombie
movies have been my favorite genre for quite some time. But I tend to stay away from
the mainstream zombie films since Hollywood always fucks them up with the whole
"Running zombie" bullshit these days. My favorites are the Italian zombie films.
They have creepy music that makes your skin crawl and they pay extra attention
to zombie feeding frenzies.

for me the ones about monsters if well made are scarier. serial killers end up being slasher films and less horror just blood and gore. and ghosts can sometimes be bleh but it can also be super creepy so i'd say maybe a tie or so between monsters and ghosts

Horror movies with more human esque killers are the ones that scare me the most because then it's like they could be anywhere. It hits close to home. Mutilated/ mutated people oh god. Like zombie movies don't scare me but I like them a lot. But if it's like Texas chainsaw massacre leatherface or Michael meyers I'm through the roof scared. Especially when they pop out ofnwalls @__@
Blair witch didn't scare me. Made me lawl
a really good horror film that may not be the scariest but one of the more sound/ visually interesting is David lynchs " eraserhead". It's actually so bizarre it's funny but disturbing at the same time. It's a unique movie experience.

Halloween is a fantastic film!
Ahh... Eraserhead. I just watched that film a couple of weeks ago. I've always been mesmerized by surrealistic movies. They just have an odd sense of beauty to them, I can't quite describe it, but it's almost ethereal. I just get so sucked in, that an hour and a half flies by, and I'm like: "Huh? Has it really been that long? It feels as if only twenty minutes have passed!".

In my situation horror movies that REALLY scare me are ones that directly relate to my worst fear - Extraterrestrial's.
So even though signs didn't have creatures jumping out every 5 minutes or the usually cliches that make people jump, it scared me mentally. I was placing myself in that situation and freaking out about what I'd do and then I'd become paranoid. I remember when that alien popped out in the birthday party recording I feared for my life in that split second because I honestly didn't expect the film to show the alien so blatantly.
Other horror movies like Paranormal Activity, The Exorcist(which I found hilarious for some reason) they scare me, but not the right kind of scare, it's mostly just things that pop out at you after some suspense.

ppffft reaaly? obviously ghosts. all the serial killer and monster movies ive seen are centered on gore and action. i doubt there will be a truly scary one. however paranormal activity scared the living hell out of me. some people say it sucks but its the camera angle that does it the way that its filmed makes it seem like your watching something that really HAPPENED.. same with cloverfeild and quarantine.

Ghosts scare the shit out of me if its a good movie. Well, not like scare scare but like after you watch the movie and your alone at night, your mind plays tricks on you.
Such was the case with Paranormal Activity.
Monster movies I just find interesting not scary. While serial killers is just a gore fest. I hate gore movies, rather just go on like... some site on the internet and look at dead people and deformities than some hollywood gore.

The only ones that freak me out are the ones that do not stray away from realistic. I love Jason, Freddy, Ghostface (although the Scream Series is a way of Wes Craven spoofing the Slasher genre and making it good) and (the original) Michael Myers as much as the next guy, but I also like to see something that could be possible, not just a single guy resurrected for a cheap sequel.
But I will admit that I saw Paranormal Activity in Theaters at the midnight showing and it scared the crap out of me.
