My Rant to Apple Haters
1
Choose a tech blog or news source of your choice that isn’t specific to Apple news, or FAKKU. Then, pick a post that introduces a new Apple product, and scroll down to the comments. The ratio of comments flaming it to those praising it will definitely be 4:1, at the least.
Apple is the tech world’s most flamed company. Regardless of how good or bad the product is, it will always be criticized by the majority. What’s ironic is, most of Apple’s products, speaking from a purely unbiased sense, are excellent products. This point can be proven by reading critical reviews on any quality tech site and consumer reviews on Amazon. In fact, Apple has been ranked number one in customer satisfaction for years in the United States.
Technologically, Apple has been responsible for multiple breakthroughs. Some examples include introducing the GUI on a personal computer and the Multi-touch interface that uses the finger as an input device. In terms of design, Apple is consistently pushing the borders. The original 1984 Macintosh was the first all-in-one computer that can be lifted with one hand. All modern laptop designs are based off the original PowerBook, which pushed the keyboard up, forming the palm rest and creating room for a trackpad. The MacBook line’s unibody architecture (which has now been expanded to the iPad) is what leads to some of the thinnest and lightest enclosures in the industry, while maintaining incredibly long battery life.
Even without involving personal preferences, denying Apple as one of the most advanced technology companies cannot be justified. Without Apple, this World will be vastly different, and almost definitely not a better one. With this fact established, let me ask the main question of this rant. Why do you hate Apple so much?
Yes, Apple Haters. I’m asking you this question.
“Alright,” I hear you say, “For one, Apple products are overpriced.” Fine. Let’s consider the basic 13” MacBook Pro for a moment. At this time of writing, the core specs of this $1199 laptop is equivalent to a $699 HP. Prices change from time to time, but the overall difference between Windows computers and Macs are known to remain fairly constant. This 70% markup is what’s infamously labeled the “Apple Tax”.
Let’s look at the two machines, identical in specs, from a neutral perspective.
For starters, the MacBook Pro has 10 hours of battery life with Wi-Fi turned on. At the time of writing, the equivalent HP has 6 hours at the max. The MacBook Pro also features a very thin and light unibody enclosure, a backlit LED with an ambient light sensor, a backlit keyboard, a motion sensor to detect a sudden drop, the glass Multi-touch trackpad, and the patented MagSafe adaptor. These things may seem minimal and useless to some people, but in conjunction with Mac OS X, for some users, it can significantly improve the user experience.
It’s really a personal preference thing when people choose to buy Macs. For a person who only looks at the core specs of the machine, getting a Mac is completely out of the question. For a person who really cares for the small details and a more refined user experience, a Mac may be worth the extra “Apple Tax”. That’s their decision. There’s no need for you to point out that “Macs are a ripoff.”. That’s your own opinion. Most people who buy Macs know perfectly they’re paying more, and in their opinion, it’s worth it. In fact, 70% of people who buy Macs today come from using Windows. There’s no reason why your opinion should be worth more than anyone else’s.
“Well, Macs suck compared to Windows! They don’t do sh*t-” Let me interrupt you before you say that they can’t “right-click” or mention the lack of games. These are truly a lame and overused argument. Firstly, the Mac can do more than just “Right-Click”. The multi-touch trackpad and the Magic Mouse can perform more functions via. gestures than any Windows-based mice. In fact, the trackpad is one of the primary reasons why people switch to Macs, even considering the “Apple Tax”.
Macs do have an abundance of applications. When it comes to numbers, they do come short in comparison to Windows. However, when it comes to usability and polish, they can easily match Windows. There are barely any task that Windows can do that Macs can’t do, and vice versa. Which one being more superior is a matter of opinion, but saying that Macs can’t do something Windows can do in terms of productivity is seriously ignorant. If you like Windows, then that’s OK, but why diss Macs? Have you ever even used one properly? Most people on Macs have used Windows for years prior. Can you match that kind of usage before criticizing it?
Games. Mac OS X definitely have far fewer games than Windows. Even though Steam is running on OS X now, Windows will most likely always have more games than OS X. Macs are also more expensive and not very economical for gamers. However, gamers represent a very small niche in the entire userbase. Using the fact that Mac OS X lacks gaming capabilities to put it down as a good computer is absurd. Most people who buy Macs are not wanting to game anyway. When the occasional urge comes, they can even boot into Windows to play games, and the problem is solved.
Why is it, after I’ve proven beyond a shadow of doubt that Macs are in no way disadvantaged to PCs, you still insist on hating them? In fact, why do you hate the Apple products in general? I don’t think I need to talk about the iPhone and iPad being very good devices. Again, critical reviews and customer satisfaction levels speak for themselves.
“Shut up, you fanboy.”
Ah, we’re finally at the core of the problem.
The reason why Apple is hated is not because they have bad products. Most of the haters know that Apple makes good products deep down in their hearts. In fact, everything I’ve written so far in this article are common knowledge to many haters. The main reason why Apple is still hated is because of their smug users.
Today, I want you to know one thing. Myself included, not all Apple users are Apple fanboys. I understand that in a debate about Mac VS PC, Mac users often justify paying the “Apple Tax” by talking about how they prefer OS X’s user interface, the apps, and the build quality like I talked about above. You will then start hearing things like “Your PC sucks. Macs never crash.” or “OS X is just so much more secure than Windows.” Let me clarify right now, the people who talk about the user interface are in a completely different group to the ones saying “Macs never crash.”
One of the greatest misconceptions of the tech community today that drove you guys to hate Apple is the idea that all of Apple’s userbase are mindless fanboys who attack everything non-Apple and praise everything Apple does. This is definitely not true at all. As a person who dual boots, I can say with confidence that both Windows 7 and Mac OS X Snow Leopard are very established and polished operating systems. Android and iOS both have their strong points and weak points. Against a very knowledgable Windows user, I don’t expect to be able to hold up in a fight saying that Mac OS X is technologically superior to Windows, but I don’t think I’d lose either. They’re both very capable and well-designed. Arguing the superiority in the first place is a completely pointless topic with nothing to gain. I’m just a person who prefers OS X and iOS because of personal opinions, something everyone is entitled to have a difference one.
As much as Apple fanboys are in the wrong for worshipping Apple, the unjustified hate you guys are throwing in Apple’s direction is equally unjustified. In the eyes of a neutral bystander like me, you’re no different to the fanboys. Just like how they ignore Apple’s faults and turn a blind eye to all the great products everyone else makes, you’re doing the same thing, ignoring Apple’s achievements, and turning a blind eye to their great products. How ironic it is that you, fueled full of despise against the fanboys, are becoming the very people you hate in the first place.
It’s time for the tech community to join hands again and put an end to this conflict. As lovers of technology, there’s no reason for us to fight over such a trivial matter. We live in a democracy, and everyone has their different opinions. Don’t let the fanboys cloud your judgement of a good product. Look at the comments you posted with a calm mind, are your comments really justified? Think about this the next time you see a new Apple product introduced. How about taking a first step today, build a hacint0sh, and boot up with Mac OS X for a week? You’ll be surprised at how good it is.

Where there is flint, and there is tinder... you will get flame.
This can apply to anything when you have two groups who believe different things. The Shi'a and the Sunnis have been in conflict for decades, and it is primarily because they disagree on who should have been Muhammad's successors.
I am glad that ImperialX decided to be as impartial as he could, mediating between both sides. I really don't care too much which is better. I have used windows a lot more than I have used OS X, but both seem viable operating systems to me. However, I don't like it how OS X can only (officially) be used on Apple computers, where as Windows can be used on all computers, even Apple ones. Otherwise, that's my only real major beef with OS X.
One really good thing I find with OS X, is that it doesn't use Direct X (not too much, but there are CIDER ports) and that it encourages the growth of OpenGL as a engine for rendering games. It's too bad that Valve doesn't have any interest in porting Steam (and the source engine) to Linux, despite having rebuilt the engine for OpenGL.

I don't Hate Apple, I tend to hate the Fanboys of apple who force-feed the products on other people. I know that there are a few sane people who use Apple Products, I my self have even used a few.
Hell i even took on ImpX's challenge of Trying out The Ipad before saying anything about it. things I liked:
-Lighter than My Laptop, so it was nice to carry around in my Backpack.
-Great for watching My movies while on the Go or in small spaces!
Its fun for doing small task, i see lots of potential in it, will i see it replacing my PC--Not Yet.
I admit that not only are some apple products great, they force other companies to step there game up to compete and make great(er) Products as well.
I grew up using Windows so I'm not planning to Switch out for a Mac just yet, i feel more comfortable with what i have, but that doesn't mean i can't use the apple products as well.

"Apple Tax"And this right here is why I don't own any Apple products. Kinda sad, I've wanted to get a macbook mainly for the purpose of video + photo editing, but the pricetags are just way too much.
I really don't find retarded markups justified by any reason. Kinda sucks that something that's supposed to be 'user friendly' and a company that's trying to convert people over throttles itself out of the average joe's budget.

I have no real beef with most of the Apple products, and I will admit that I wanted an iPod touch and iPhone back when they first came out. But the company itself makes me go far, far away from the products, with it's advertising, and the general feel that it's evolved from a company based around making new products to a company making a quick buck by yelling so loud nobody else can hear and taking all the money they can from their loyal customers (read: fanboys).
Also, try and defend the Macbook Air's existence. I dare you.

Also, try and defend the Macbook Air's existence. I dare you.Oh gosh, I'm so tempted to write a 1000 word reply just for this, because the answer is so very easy. It's such a common question, and since the MBA is aimed at a niche market, most people can't see its appeal.
But that would be contradicting what I wrote in these two threads, so I won't say anything.

Yikes you need to brush up on your Multi-Touch interface. They have been around since the late 70's. Also the NEC Ultralight really defined the style of modern laptops. Apple's only contribution was adding the track-pad and badly at first since if I remember correctly at first it was a trackball. And as just an FYI the only reason Apple introduced the first GUI personal computer was because they hired the guys from Xerox that developed the GUI interface and the mouse.
Don't get me wrong I like some of what Apple produces but I find that they are either fit for a niche market(Their early domination of the graphic artist community), or seen as a status symbol (iPhone, etc.)
Could the PC market learn from Apple? Hell yes they could but Apple could learn a lot from the PC market as well.
P.S. Technically the TRS-80 would be the first all in one computer(using the term loosely) that you could pick up with one hand.

The iPhone is the first application of the Multi-touch user interface to a practical consumer-targeted operating system. As for the laptops, you make a very good point, but I didn't state that Apple single-handedly defined the entire laptop industry. I'm just saying Apple has contributed greatly in our technological advancements, and remains one the best technology companies today, which I'm sure you agree to.
Also, I don't think Apple's still a niche company now. Sure, they were a decade ago. Now with them generating cash by the billions every quarter, it's safe to say that their products have become significantly more accessible by common people.

Apple hasn't made a breakthrough on anything but marketing other people's hard work as their own "revolutionary" devices.
The company has never, ever come out with anything new.
Multitouch was used on 3 different Nokia phones before the iPhone was ever designed, but you wouldn't know that, because you don't know what you're talking about.
Apple and their fanboys claim that Apple had the first graphical interface. No, that was the PARC.
Apple claims to have "revolutionized" the smartphone. No, they just put extremely locked down software on an underpowered mobile device with a big screen and only 2 buttons, and people said "Oooh! Shiny!".
Apple claims to have "invented" the "revolutionary" "retina display". It's just a display with more PPI than the previous in their lineup. This has been done with every device with a screen ever made.
The Unibody architecture makes it impossible to service your own device, further locking you into paying for support from their company.
Mac battery life is no better than the battery life of competitors. The figures you've used to compare that probably come from the Apple website. Try using an unbiased review.
Apple has done nothing for this world, except maybe kick a few phone vendors butts into gear, who now all create far superior devices than the iPhone.
Your comparisons make no reference to actual facts, but simply your own opinions, invalid.
"For starters, the MacBook Pro has 10 hours of battery life with Wi-Fi turned on" yeah, if it's sitting in standby not doing anything. This benchmark means nothing in the real world.
I have owned both a newer Powerbook and a G4.
The G4 was the only machine Apple ever made that was worth the money.
You are the reason there are so many Apple haters. You have quoted nothing but rhetoric and blatant lies about Apple and the nothing they've done.
Here are the facts:
-Apple has made no revolutions in the technology world, only in marketing(selling people overpriced products).
-Apple's computers now use the exact same parts and architecture as PCs, however they cost up to 300% more. The only difference is the outer casing, and a unibody frame certainly does not merit a tripling of the price.
-Apple released untested and flawed products, then points the finger at their competitors for the flaw, when they are unrelated. (No, not just the iPhone 4. Anyone remember the Apple III? Steve Jobs thought it'd be cool to have a computer with no vents or fans. They melted inside. Jobs blamed the part manufacturers.)
-OSX is simply UNIX with a stripped down front end and an extra API library. Yet, every version of it costs users upwards of $70. In the Windows world, that's called a Service Pack, and it's free. In the Linux world, it's called a kernel update, and it's free.
All you have shown here, is that you have absolutely no knowledge of computer history, nor of the company you vehemently defend.
Oh, and Apple is not the number one tech company, as the fanboys have been raging about. They have the highest level of market capita in the current market. However they have almost 0 venture investments, and all of their money is in volatile stock. If you know anything about the business world, that means the company is mismanaged and heading towards oblivion.

Damn, I better go return my BS in computer Science. You have shamed me.
Readers: Notice how this person quoted nothing, and only spouted his opinion, rather than facts, again. This is how you can tell a fanboy from someone who knows what they're talking about. If anything I said was "rubbish", he would have quoted it and said why. The fact is that he can't, because he knows it would take 10 seconds on google to prove him wrong.

Check out their latest quarterly statement, pages 10-19 especially (found here). Anyone with a basic understanding of accounting can recognize that Apple isn't "heading towards oblivion" or mismanaging their assets.
Apple is doing really, really well.

The fact is that he can't, because he knows it would take 10 seconds on google to prove him wrong.Sigh...if anyone goes on Google, the only person who will be proven wrong is you. That's why I don't even need to say anything.

I can relate to this thread. I don't understand why anyone uses Mac/Apple products just based off my experience with them but hell, I don't give a shit what OS you use. What pisses me off is people acting like they are superior because they use Mac/Apple products, that in turn instantly sparks endless ranting and debating.
If Mac/Apple users (the stupid ones) learned to shut the hell up the rest of the users (the smart ones) would not have to deal with constant bitching and debating.
Seriously OS's all get the job done one way or another.

I love my apple products but don't show off or feel superior and you know what? I also use Windows from time to time. It really depends what your computing needs are. No need to debate, everyone has their own tastes.

I just dislike that the fanbase is really annoying. Its just as bad as the fanbase around final fantasy and Naruto.
Also I am clueless as to why anyone would compare a iphone to a dedicated handheld system and claim that it can beat sony and nintendo. It's silly to see that people seriously consider it seeing as the iphone line of products don't have tactile controls. If it had a dpad and buttons along with its multi-touch screen then I'd understand the comparison and might even consider agreeing, but it doesn't so it'd make a lot more sense to place it in a class of its own.
Also I really don't get why everyone are like 'apple invented touchscreens !!!11!2eleven!' no they didn't. Multitouch has been around for years.

People don't do their research I guess. But yeah most of the online fanbase is annoying.
