PG-13... The movie is going to suck.QFT. I feel the same way about that as I did when I heard the first AVP movie was going to be PG-13. Some movies just need to be rated R to do the story full justice.

I finally got around to seeing this movie, since I'm an avid fan of the game I thought I'd share some critique and comparison.
Score: 7/10
Plot:
The general plot seems to somewhat resemble that of the game, as in that Max's wife and kid are killed and the drug Valkyr is at the center of it all. In the movie, he isn't assigned into any undercover roles, but rather has been placed inside a tiny little cold case office where he wiles away his time hunting down rogue leads to who might have been responsible for his family's murder.
Alot of the same characters make an appearance, like his partner Alex, his 'friend' B.B., and deputy chief Jim Bravura. They don't go into the whole thing with that old man Woden, but instead chose to make Bravura less of an idiot who seems to realize a bit more of what is going on. I don't know how I feel about Mila Kunis as Mona Sax...she seems too short for the part, and not nearly bad ass enough to really pull it off, but it could have been worse. They cast the perfect guy for Lupino though, although they gave him a much bigger role in this movie than he ever had in the game.
That said, almost the entire picture revolves around getting to Lupino, even if the eventual showdown with him is rather disappointing to watch. Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne is a good look visually, but he doesn't have the voice. The game wasn't just awesome because of the gameplay, but listening to that dark broody, half-nonsensical narrative was one of the best parts. They probably realized this early on, and Mark only talks for a little bit at the beginning, and the rest of the movie you get nothing from him.
In order to depict the insanity caused by the drug Valkyr, they CG'ed in some black angel looking things that seem to be the cause of misfortune for any junkie of the drug. It was kinda cute at first, but soon got to be a little bit silly and pointless. There was one scene where one of these things pulls a junkie through a window, which was kinda neat to watch, but mostly they're just flying about aimlessly and detract from the movie.
The action wasn't bad. There wasn't alot of it, shoot-outs came in short bursts and never lasted long, and the rest is usually Max reminiscing or running around after clues, but there were a few pretty decent ones. There was one real Bullet-time moment, which is what I was hoping for, so I can't be too disappointed. Also, it seems that Max himself favored the shotgun for most of the movie, which is also my favorite weapon to use in the game. So kudos there. Pump-action, not the sawed-off.
All in all, it was actually better than I had hoped, but my expectations for this were near the floor. There was alot of plot to go through in the game, and they condensed it as best as they could, and still somehow managed to end it on a note that indicated a sequel, a sequel that should still cover material from Max Payne, and not Max Payne 2. Eh, we'll see...

the only thing this has common with the game is it's name. no action (except that office part), actors suck...
only good part is when Max takes that drug and sees those Valkyries.

It was just so...slow. It was a half-hour's worth of movie stretched out into a feature-length film.

What happened to Punchinello? Why no Vladimir? I like Vladimir, I really wanted him in here, but since they decided to base this mostly on Lupino there was little room for much of anything. Kinda disappointing. ...and dammit, Mona's sister is supposed to be named Lisa, not Natasha. :x

The trailer was better than the movie.I saw poster that were better then the movie.
this movie sucked almost as hard as PUSH. The only thing that made it moderately entertaining was that it was fucking Max Payne but even a man a Gar as him can be made into a fucking faggot by hollywood.

Me and my brother saw this on the big screen once.
After the movie, my brother said that the movie was great.
I said, "....wtf is wrong with you? Are you really related to me?"
Guess the diff. on opinions shows only when one has played the game while the other hasn't

hha . .
Actually,I didn't like the movie so much .
I prefer the game, because the storyline is very clear .
In the movie, lots of people says like this.
"Wtf,where the Lupino comes from?I didn't understand."
also, the gamer said,"hell, all of the storyline was cut off and they make another story."
