Metro: Last Light

Metro: Last Light, is the sequel to Metro 2033, a post-apocalyptic survival-horror FPS based off of the book of the same name. If you didn't know, Metro 2033 had a number of developers from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series working on it. I was a big fan of the first game and it's sequel looks like it aims to do even better.

Well I found the first one tedious as fuck but I suppose I'll have to check this one out, maybe for graphics alone. Isn't this from the devs who work on Stalker? kind of wishing they'd just work on Stalker 2 instead.

2033 was horrendous. Sure, the graphics were pretty good but the gameplay was just horrible. They need to drop this and just continue Stalker.

I've heard people bitch about the controls, but I don't think it's too dissimilar from say Far Cry 2. The shooting seemed just fine for me, as were the stealth options. If anything, my only real complaint would be that some of the enemies take a little too much damage and that explosives don't deal enough. Even then, I still haven't played the game on Ranger mode, so I don't know if that fixes my problems or not.

The damage part is fixed in Ranger Hardcore mode (Just beat it for third time); Nazis die from 2-3 shots with Bastard Gun. The grenades are still underwhelming though. If you get the railgun, though, doing damage doesn't really matter, since all (even Librarians) can be killed with 1~2 half-fully charged shots
Things that I want to be fixed/added:
1) Stealth- How everyone immediately knows your position even in the dark when you are found. This is about the only major problem in the game, especially during the 'Frontline' mission. Even during normal combat, everyone knows where you are even if you are hiding in a darkest corner.
2) Ability to move bodies- Pretty heartpoundingly frustrating if you happen to assassinate a guard in middle of someone's path, or if someone finds the body at where you thought was conspicuous.
3) Range and fluidity of knife-meleeing- About the most frustrating combat issue I faced in this game was knife alone and nothing else. While this is rarely a problem because I never use it, when I do try to use it the knife animation is really clumsy and the range is really too short, since the enemies have to be right front of your face. It would also be great if they add some kind of backstabbing animation for stealth.
4) Even harder difficulty w/ more survival horror-ish elements- Both the ranger hardcore and hard mode were really easy for me; I finished with good ending with over 200+ military grade ammo, etc. Using railgun probably helped a lot.
I really can't understand what's with the people having issues with the controls. I found it perfectly fine, but maybe it's because I was using a controller on PC. The first game is one of my favorite games ever; I wish they continue it on the sequel.
On the side note, I mentioned in the original thread that Metro 2033 almost completely moved away from the original novel's plot, as if they belonged in different dimensions. With putting Artyom as the main character for the sequel (Hunter's supposed to be the main character in the novel version) I wonder how far they'll go away from the plotline this time.

You do realize that some of the enemies also have night-vision goggles, right?

I agree with you there, as the knife isn't even an insta-kill when trying to assassinate any guards or the like. It just scratches him and he turns around and shoots me, his gunfire alerting everyone else in the vicinity. When given all of the silent weapons (some with retrievable ammo) that can score one-hit-kill headshots, it kinda makes you wonder why there's even a knife in this game to begin with.

Well, the thing that really pissed me off about this game is the stealth. I forgot what part that was but I was supposed to sneak through some russian base and everytime I try to sneak past them, they just jump on my ass like they already knew I was there. Had to repeat that part alot on Ranger mode and it really pissed me off. And yeah, I also don't like the way they take too little damage from a full magazine. It's like they have some kinda invisible ultra thick armor.

Well, considering this is also from the stealth missions with Bourbon before there is any night vision goggles appearing, I'd say it is a problem.

Actually, I tried that in Ranger Hardcore mode. If you knife him in the back of his exposed neck area below the helmet but above the armor, it kills the guard instantaneously. The only problem is that it is NOISY AS HELL, with occasional yells and sparks coming from the helmet, and if there are any guards nearby, they'll know. I never tried it in any other modes, so maybe that's why it's not instantaneous

As I've said before, a few of the guys in that level have night-vision goggles and if they spot you, you're boned. I somehow managed to sneak by them all for the achievement. What you gotta do is knock out EVERY light you see, and stick to the lower levels of the bridge. You have to be patient and figure out the guards' patrol routes so that you don't accidentally run into any of them or walk across their line of sight. Also, watch where you're stepping. I've noticed that some levels have broken glass on the floor that actually makes noise that the game's AI will react to.

I rage quitted when I couldn't do anything at all in that level.

A word of advice: buy Stealth pack in Armory level when you are going stealth. Make sure you are not trying to sneak with Combat armor. When you get a stealth armor, putting out light is not at all necessary, and doing so is unnecessary waste of precious ammo.
Also, the light detector on the wristwatch as well as night vision goggles is your best friend.

my post in this thread got deleted due to the big rollback =/, anyway, Metro 2033 was one of the most underrated games of 2010, but I realy enjoyed it, enough for more than 4 playthroughs. I hear that THQ is going to eliminate the bugs that the last game had (the main one I had was not being able to take off a broken mask). I loved the first game and this is definitely on my buy list.

Gonna run through the game again, this time just with silenced bastard gun and nothing else on ranger hard mode.
Is the release date still TBA?

Took a snapshot from the trailer. I'm liking the variety of monsters they're adding to this game.
Anyone else reminded of the antlions from Half-life 2?

Gameplay trailer is up:
Seems like most of game mechanism is intact, along with the addition of knife assassination-the feature I wanted them to add!
Looks like there's also more variety of weapons and enemies; my god, I can't wait for it to come out.

I see. I'll keep that in mind when I try it again.

First was warped rats and bats, and now spider-looking monsters? I find antlions annoying when you're fighting a shitload of them

That trailer alone took this from a "want to buy" game to a day-one purchase.

Release date is 2012 TBA... wooo this is about one of my most anticipated game along with Skyrim.
I love how they seemed to have increased the environmental interaction (animation of manually turning off the light bulb, wall breaking down, knife assassination, etc.)
However, now that I've seen the gameplay video, I SERIOUSLY wonder how the story's going to be. I think they might diverge from Metro 2034 novel, seeing that Artyom is main character instead of Hunter and they did about the same thing for the original Metro 2033. Maybe they'll follow the 'Good Ending?'
