[Top Chef Fakku July] Garden-fresh Tomato Basil Soup
0
Tomatoes are a lovely summer food, and teh bf happens to grow them in his backyard. Or rather, his mom grows them and I get to have them whenever I want. This tomato soup recipe used tomatoes plucked straight from the vine and basil fresh from the bush to create an explosion of lovely summer flavors. It's a really easy recipe with great results, and it tastes good whether hot or cold. Eat it with garlic bread or grilled cheese sandwiches!
(As an aside, I cooked this much earlier in the month, but didn't upload it until now because I am lazy as fuck. Summer just makes me want to hide in the darkness of my bedroom all the freaking time.)

Hmmm, looks good. Its been ages since Ive had a tomato soup (or any soup to be honest) that wasnt from a can... (yeah...)
The tomatoes look great though, its always great to cook with homegrown ingredients (my family has a small vegie patach in the backyard which I have been abusing).
The final product looks good as well, though maybe its just be not having a proper tomato soup in ages, I prefer mine a tad more red.
Anyway, nice work.

Yeah, I prefer mine with a lot of cream, but you can always adjust the cream levels to your taste. If you're using fresh veggies the colour will depend on the tomatoes you use in the soup as well.

For me, i generally like things made with tomato like ketchup and tomato sauce, but i don't find eating a actual tomato appetizing.
With that in mind, do you think i would like this?

I think you would, since for all intents and purposes you are cooking the tomatoes down into a sauce. If part of what bothers you about actual tomatoes is the peel, then you can definitely peel the tomatoes before using it in this recipe.
