Silent Hill: Downpour

What's y'alls opinion on this game? If I do buy it'd be my first Silent Hill I've purchased myself, with my own money (need to stop being a pussy and get the whole catalogue)

I think it's cheap they got David Hayter/Tamahome/Solid Snake as the VA for the main character. And they brought in hand-picked mechanics from the previous games. Some people are even saying this looks like the best SH in a while?

Calling it the best Silent Hill in awhile is NOT a real compliment...everything after 3 was pretty shit. I hope they can just bring back the magic that made the earlier games in the series such classics. No more of that wannabe RE5 ,Homecoming bullshit.

Well, its not looking bad, but i agree with Shinji, it certainly wont be the best of the series.
All the excitement you got from the first games are VERY hard to beat and rise to that level again.

Same goes for Residen Evil.

I would rather see them remake Silent hill 1 and 2, and Resident Evil 1+2 with decent graphic/HD, maybe even use a new engine, WITHOUT changing the storyline, except maybe a few new rooms, other location of items, so you still need to search.

And maybe (for RE2) an additional Scenario C somehow? WIthout ruining the main story of course.

Saying everything after 3 is shit is an overstatement. Yeah, 4 was weird as fuck, but I'm sure most SH fans think the same way. Origins was quite good according to the general verdict, and Homecoming and Shattered Memories were decent. The newer installments aren't blockbuster titles but they're still fairly good.



That's asking too much. On the PS1, the specs were primitive; fixed camera angles, claustrophobic hallways, jaggies...you name it. Now that the current gen is out there's a lot that could be done. The issue probably lies in them trying to do too much. (Not to mention the teams are different.)

Unless you mean graphics.

And RE has been remade several times on several consoles. PS2, GC, DLC. You forget. And Resident Evil doesn't stack up to Silent Hill by any means. RE has always been a bit more popular...but that's just because it isn't scary. I've played through RE4 on the wii all the way; it was fun. But in SH the atmosphere is different. Gamers now are just spoiled by the flurry of newer games.

Resident Evil lost its Scaring factor after either Nemesis or/and Code Veronica. 4 and 5 is just Action and by no means Horror anymore.
And I actually meant that, they can remake the first 2 RE games on current graphic engines but still let the fixed camera angles remain. I think tehy were important for the scare moments.

The series will never be the same again since Akira Yamaoka has left Konami, it might be good, but i doubt it will be at the level that the first three were. Even the fourth one was pretty good, although with it's flaws, but the story and music was awesome.


RE has been remade one time, the Resident Evil REmake for GC, the other ones were pretty much just straight up ports.

And no one told me about Silent Hill HD Collection. A shame.
