About the Serious threads
0
Every single time I decide I wanna partake in some "serious" talking on the forums here, I enter only to see a wall of the same crap I saw like a month before. They arent original at all and are basically the same topics keep getting recycled.
What do you think of:insert religious topic here
Whats your opinion of:insert medical topic here
Hey what do you think of:insert some other generic bullshit here
Its not like Im bashing the topics that are already here, but as adults are you all seriously telling me that the only things you consider serious are the same old recycled subjects over and over again? And half the time these topics arent even serious, but usually topics that provoke opinion wars that in turn provoke other non biased people to try to calm it by being indifferent.
What Im getting at is that I believe we can think of something else to talk about for a change. I would also like to know if anyone else is tired of this, cause frankly Im sick of it.

It's been noted by myself and many others in the forums. Guess we just have to wait a while for it to clear up or just go post in other places.

...Do...all of those not count as serious discussions anymore?
I mean honestly if you want to participate in a serious discussion so badly...start one. Make a thread. I made one about Logic, and I'm currently arguing with another user over the veracity of using logic to approach problems.
It's not hard. You want to participate in a Serious Discussion? Make one. Can't make one? Tough, beggers can't be choosers.

Well thats annoying. I mean literally right now if you look in the serious topics page besides my post & I think 1 other they are all variations of THE SAME SHIT!
I almost wish there were some sub branch page they could post it all. But I know that the work to do it would be bothersome so itll probably never happen.
EDIT: Big Lundi, I just made one. Also, if you read my post I pointed out that your thread is the only other post not about the same thing Ive been seeing forever(Althought I couldnt remember the name). So if youre done...moving on.

I feel your pain its all so boring, most of these people get their opinion from the news anyway so its hardly even original, insightful or thought provoking.

OP is referring to the quality of the material most of which does seem like it's being recycled.
I think this section needs to be a bit more moderated in terms of quality of content with start posts that are a bit more insightful and thought out instead of the usual two liners.

Honestly, these issues keep people up at night and they want to discuss them.
Yes, there are better discussions to be had, but until someone makes a good topic on them (perhaps you?), it doesn't make a difference!

Those are the issues people find it hard to agree to disagree. Since the matter usually isn't "solved" during the discussion, it keeps resurfacing from time to time. I'm not really opposed to it, if people find it meaningful to discuss about it, then why not. Religious threads are like yaoi, don't click on them if it's not your thing. =P
I don't know if I'm alone in this, but the words 'serious discussion' often translates as debate or even argument. So it's only natural that the topics causing strong disagreements gravitate towards this section.

Thats something I also failed to make clear in my original post. Most of these discussions dont even involve real discussion, but devolve into wars of opinion, where the posters attempt to shut down there competition by dedicating an entire wall of text just to string together a mound of witty statements and big words and deeming it intelligence &/or maturity.
Also, thank you all for your opinions. I wanted to see how many people were actually sick of this happening here, but I see not many people saw fit to reply. I actually want to hear more of peoples thoughts on it, but it doesnt seem like anyone else feels its worthy of a reply, or at least one that wont provoke argument.
Concerning the advice about just making my own, I will think of some. Although its going to be hard because I want to come up with a subject that wont provoke any argument and is still thought provoking and interesting. But I WILL do it eventually.

I'm new here, so these "recycled" discussions are new to me, so I'm not bothered by them
I completely agree with you; "opinion war" is the perfect way to describe it.
reasonable opinions get responded by informal insults, followed by an unreadable wall of text, and then an "I just proved I'm right" statement.
People need to stop insulting other people. If they said something stupid, you should let the facts expose this, not insult them; it's rude, informal, and unnecessary. Also, no one should EVER deem themselves right in any arguement; others can deem them right, but not themselves.

Exactly. Do you really think a handful of us on a hentai forum are going to come to some sort of definitive answer on topics such as economic policy or religious authority? I don't. The fact that people keep saying the same thing over and over is indicative of the fact that several people share certain viewpoints.
And several of those "opinion wars" are legitimate and proper debates on topics where differing viewpoints are the foundation of the argument. Belief in income equality as a goal worth pursing, or divine mandate as the only basis for legal systems are opinions, but discussing the matter at hand without delving into them leaves only a superficial discussion.

"im always cute"
There are very few, as you call them, "recycled topics". There are many similar topics, differing in minutia but still different enough to be in separate threads.
What would you like? A "BIG OL' RELIGION TOPIC"? I'm not personally opposed to it, but forcing everyone who wants to discuss any facet of religion to join the cluttered jumblefuck that thread would be is essentially censorship.
As for the threads themselves, many of them begin with a premise which could, and often do, proceed as serious discussion for a while. When they do devolve into opinion wars, however, what do you propose I do? The thread cannot be simply moved into Random, it is still not suitable for that section. If I lock the thread, it would undoubtedly bring the ire of one or more of the arguers who many feel they haven't sufficiently countered a specific point. Worse yet, it might give the impression that I am favoring the argument of one person over the other.
Regarding insults, that IS something I could reasonably do something about: delete posts or ask a inflammatory person to stop. Admittedly though, I DO have other things to do besides perusing the forums. On this note it would be the responsibility of the discussion participants (or even a 3rd party whistleblower) to bring such a case to my attention.
@ Lazy Artist: I understand your frustration, but there is a bottom line and you know people are complacent to rest on it. So while I ideologically support your appeal, there is honestly only so much you or I can do about it. You could say, "raise the bottom line", but not only would that drastically increase this forum's maintenance, it would also exclude a significantly larger populace than already -- something that I doubt Jacob would appreciate. Let's not even get into the users who would be convinced they were being discriminated against.
I'd really appreciate, however, if people would stop complaining about "same threads everywhere". If you *actually* see a repeat or nearly identical thread, please REPORT it. If you cannot come up with a good reason as to why the threads should be merged, then you honestly don't have a leg to stand on, do you?

Spoiler:
Good point. Well taken. Though I would like to say I dont think that the topics should be merged, that would be chaotic. I was thinking of a new section to post it in, kinda like the Video game or romance sections. I also thought of the reasons why that wont happen, so pushing for it is pretty much useless. Thanks again for your opinion & insight.
