Writing section orginization

I frequent the writing section, but have noticed some problems that make navigation difficult.
A main one is that the Seasonal Writing Contests drown out other user's posts.
Now, if a sub-forum(like CTFG) could be made, this would be fixed.
This would also prevent the hosts from having to dig through 10+ pages of topics and writings.
Any mayhem would also be prevented, especially if a post/entry was missed.
Your thoughts?

I actually support this. The contest, as much as it helps some writers break through, is going to overcome any other story that comes through, like that Dungeon Date or something (forgive me if I didn't remember the name correctly). I'm holding my own story back because of this.

Ah, I should have postponed posting mine also. Oh well, I will add the rest after the contest.

Actually in my opinion, the whole Writing section could do with some heavier organization like creating an index for stories, separating discussion and release threads, maybe adding tags to stories in the distant future.

Honestly, the ideal writing/critique interface would look nothing like a forum and would likely require a good deal of additional interface design and code to handle. Handling non-story submissions (e.g., the choose-your-own-adventure threads) would either require further work, or be delegated back to the current forum-hosted solution.
I'll think about it a bit and see if I can come up with some ideas. I'm not really familiar with the structure of the content posted there -- are releases mostly episodic content (e.g., chapters in a book) or are they standalone? Should discussions be at the end of each chapter, or should we have inline commenting (ala Google docs)? What other features should there be?
Having content-specific subforums is definitely a viable stopgap in the meantime; I'll talk to Jacob over the weekend and see if we can devise a reasonable system to facilitate it. Right now, the only interface to create/modify forums/subforums is to directly modify the SQL database :|

All it truly needs is sub-categories of writing.
For example, completed works would go in one, ongoing stories in another, and poems and miscellaneous in the other.
Chose-your-adventures are not a large problem- The author could post the different choices under spoilers.
From what I have seen, there is a large mixture of the content posted. Some are ongoing stories and others are shorts and poems.
Also, Most comments are posted after each release, but if the OP kept a master-list of his chapters/works in the first post, Fakkuers could easily comment.
Okay, thank you.
I understand this is difficult,so I will do all I can to help.

Hmm.... seems like something users of the Writing forum and definitely enjoy! Though what I really want to see is the Role-playing forum which Jacob simply said "We'll see down the road".
But anyway, I'm a frequenting user there and know pretty much a lot about it, if you wanna ask something about which that may confuse you and Jacob or what goes around there, don't hesitate to ask.
And we usually have stand-alone stories posted for contests and such and rarely have standalones posted normally. I see chaptered-series (AKA episode content) a lot.

The section is in disarray now because of the contest. A month down the road, it won't be like this and regular devoted stories can last a lot longer on the front page. Writing portfolio threads for writers that constantly submit work is a solution for writers who want to continuously expose everyone to all their work. However, a problem is that each individual author wants to demand more attention for their submissions respectively.
IMHO, there is no apparent organization that will satisfy everyone. We don't need a section for contests and contest entries of one-shots that last a month. What we need is to determine what is a year-long presence that updates regularly and can be segregated into its own devoted section. Ergo; role-plays. You can extend that into updating adventures because they are technically role-plays because the people are playing the role of the protagonist.
I have been advocating for a Writing sub-section for role-playing for the past year and will continue to do so. If Jacob will let Unpantsu do it for him, then great. As long as we get it. My suspicion is that it won't happen, however. At least, not yet. I'll still wait.
