[size=12][/h]All right before people say stuff let me say some things. In general cigarettes are the only legal thing that guarantees a shortened life. It does add money to the economy though.

Im not really into this subject but anyway. I never smoked in my life, but it is a source of many deadly desieses, such as lung cancer... but on the other hand it's also a great source of money to tha industries and to the goverment itself... and that's the only reason it still legal (in my opinion)
PS: I voted "No" but I meant "Yes" (my bad xb)

I don't really care, people can put whatever they want in their bodies. The gov. is benefiting from the sales so some good is coming out of it (if you want to ignore the second hand smoke problem).

No, and this is coming from someone who neither smokes cigarettes or udnerstands why anyone else does. They tried the same thing with alcohol during prohibition, and we all know how well that worked out...or didn't work out, to be non-sarcastic about it

Like I care? Enough warning signals have been sent out and are continuing to be sent out by society for people to make their own godamn choice.
They want to try it and risk lung cancer and addiction to nicotine, fine, its their life.
It looks cool? Sure, jumping off a bridge is too, it doesn't make it less stupid.
I don't smoke, but if anyone asks me for a light, I'll be happy to provide so they can do what they want, just being civil.

Those who smoke are likely old enough to understand the consequences of their smoking habits. The non-smoking areas are good enough for me.
No, I dont smoke and I dont plan to.

The trend of smoking will die off in time as more people become educated about the hazards of cigarettes. Banning cigarettes and other tobacco products alike would just increase crime as people would try to sell them illegally and then our prisons will be more crowded than they already are.

I myself don't smoke but it doesn't bother me.
If you're an 18 year old (or older) adult who wants to smoke, go for it.
He/she knows the health risks, it isn't our job to mommy them.
It should and is illegal to minors, let adults make their own decisions. :P

As much as I'd like to see tobacco outlawed, it would be impossible to do that in modern times as there's about 2 billion smokers all over the world. Telling them to give up their smokes would probably prompt them to commit suicide.
Then there's the tobacco industry. It's profitable and by now irreplaceable as it's a big part of some countries' wealth (Cuban cigars are sold by tens of millions each year).

It should be outlawed from public places like bus stops and train stations. Other than that, it would be a massive backlash outlawing something that a large population of America still does.

Some people enjoy smoking, It helps the relax and it really has shown to help relieve stress. If some peole want to trade off their personal health for comfortability.
And I can understand that, Hell, I can relate to that.

I'm a smoker, and I don't care if they are gonna ban them or not ban them, I can live without them anyway.
If the reason of banning smoke is the second-hand smoke problem, then instead of putting all the smokers in one little box, might as well ban them altogether.
Because it is not fair to literally put them in the corner and take their money out of their pocket.

Mod Note: I received a report that this topic is not "Serious Discussion" material. However, after some consideration, I have decided to give it another chance, perhaps by starting an intellectual discussion going.
In addition, I believe similar, if not identical, topics have been created in the past, although I can't seem to find it at the moment.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Getting on topic, cigarettes and tobacco are definitely detrimental to health (if scientific facts are to be trusted), not only to the smoker, but to innocent by-standers too. However, the main reason why cigarettes and tobacco have not been made illegal is because the amount of money it garners for the government in terms of taxes.
Over here in my country, anyone caught with unlicensed cigarettes will be fined. Furthermore, retailers are also required to apply for licenses before being allowed to sell such products. With more redtape, fees will be imposed on each procedure, which may lead to more earnings by the authorities.
In short, I don't think cigarettes or tobacco will ever be made illegal... at least over here.

I want this products to be banned in certain places. and also purchase it freely.
In our Country, even 10-12 Yr old Kids can smoke freely. and also the risk of 2nd hand smoking increases.
every stalls, retailers, do not care about what they sell. as long that the buyers would patronize it.
Some smokers don't realize or care on what their smoke can do to others and themselves.

You think it should be illegal but you don't say why ?

For the others abouth second smoke : If the probleme is second smoke , it would be stupid to ban the cigarette since the cigarette itself is not the probleme but smoking it near other people . Here in canada we have to smoke at 9 meters of any public building and there's not a lot of smokers complaining abouth it . I think it should be like that everywhere , it's common respect .

As a smoker when I go out and smoke you don't have to stand next to me when I smoke. You don't like it go around me I'm not blocking your path.
