This is about the upcoming 2012, This is where Jesus himself will reappear and take his followers, children and the mentaly ill.
Personally i don't believe that, so i would like to know what you think on this matter at hand.
for those that don't see the question im asking.
Why do you believe 2012 will happen?
if you do don't explain why.
(Don't forget to vote!)
Update: Please people, keep it serious.
Thanks

No, because this prediction of the end of the world is based from some ancient civilization who didn't even have the insight to prevent their own downfall. 2012-ers are some gullible fucking people.

I've never fucking even heard of it. I mean, everyday knew Y2K, the year of 2000, but 2012?Yes 2012 was based from an ancient mayan civilization, they discovered a calendar with ending in 2012, the bible ends at 2012. they have made connections throughout time. read up on it.

Does this really belong in the serious discussion? Perhaps the Random subforum section would have been better for this topic.

I believe this particular topic has the potential to become a serious discussion, so I am leaving it here for the time being, to see how things turn out.
Personally, I hope the world does not end in 2012, since there are many things I have yet to achieve in life, such as getting a girlfriend, having a long vacation overseas, being fillial to my parents, etc. However, if the end does arrive, I don't think anyone can stop it, unless some of us develop superhuman powers along the way.
There has been a number of predictions concerning the end of the world, but so far (and thankfully), none of them has come true. Then again, with the way things are going on our planet, especially the environmental aspects, I don't think earth can last too long either.

[size=10]People said similar things about 6/6/6.
By 6/6/6, I mean June Sixth 2006 6/6/06.
But anyway many people said the world would end then or the devil would arrive (and a few other things). However, that wasn't the case. I doubt it will end in 2012. Still, I like how the calender thing worked out. I saw a video on the topic a while back. A year or two ago... But anyway, I could care less if the world ends in 2012.
To be honest.. I wouldn't mind if it ended now. But uh.. I'm pretty sure it won't.[/h]

I really don't see why people make such a big deal out of the Mayan Calander...
There can be many reasons the calander project might have been dropped:
1. Decided 2012 years worth of carving was unneccesary
2. Died of old age or religious practices
3. Gone out to tea and never came back
4. The dude found himself a woman
The calander in my room ends 12/31/08. Does that mean the worlds going to end? No. Maybe the calander maker just though some else will continue their work...

That would be funny
"2012, dec31st: END OF THE WORLD!"
"2013, jan1st: New Year! YAY! Also, pick up groceries!"

At least have faith it can happen at some point in time. I know how you feel though. Religion provides nothing but the emotional comfort of the foolish, and the deaths of many many more.

XD Lazy Mayans, making the world end early.
So, the world is going to end again? It seems like this has happened a lot during my life time. Like that time that we had a nuclear holocaust because military computers didn't have a calendar that could go past the year 1999, and that June 6, 2006 when the devil came and killed all of us, and oh yeah! The LHC destroyed the world no more than a month ago! I don't know about you guys, but the end of the world hasn't had a negative impact on my life yet.

Plenty of people and groups have said the world was going to end on date X. So far, they have all been wrong. Look at the Jehova's Witnesses and their flimsy attempts to explain how they actually "misread" the signs.
Ivan Stang said it best when remarked that his church misstated the end of the world as 1999 when they read the date upside down.
