I saw a lot of animes from tv when i was a kid like Pokemon, Digimon and so on, but back then i still didn't really know they were 'different' from the other animations that came from tv. I didn't know they were called anime. The one that i knew was anime from Japan and got me into looking for more wasn't actually a tv series but a movie.

Tonari no Totoro (My Neighbor Totoro)

Not only the best animated film, but in my top 3 of best films all time too for me! I think Tina Turner said it best:

Well, I know it is a bit cliche, but my first love was DBZ. It introduced me to both the anime and gaming world.

Pokemon was the first anime I had ever watched...Revolutionary Girl Utena was the second, and it got me hooked...mostly to yuri lol.
The first non-lesbian-oriented thing I really enjoyed was Death Note. :D

FLCL technically, but now I realize that its not as good as I once thought.

Nigga, go and repent for yo' blasphemy.

OT: The first anime's i watched were DB, DBZ, Sailor Moon, Yu Yu Hakusho, Ranma 1/2 (though at the time i didnt like it as much as i like it now), and of course Pokemon.

Ahh, good ol' 90's/late 80's....

But my top favorites were and will always remain DB, DBZ and Pokemon :)

I would say it was shows like DBZ, Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-Gi-Oh!, etc. but I never though of them as "anime" (around those times I didn't know that anime was even a thing.)...

What really opened my eyes to "The World of Anime" was watching Vandread on the Stars:Encour Wow channel. After that, and with the help of the internet it just took off from there.

Golden Boy on Mtv, probably in 2003, middle school.

when I was pre kindergarten my dad showed me Sora Tobu Yuurei Sen (1969), Jack and the Beanstalk(1974) and Mazinger Z (1972) so it might have had some influence but the turning event goes to Kintaro Oe.

Mine's pretty random. I used to watch Pokémon and DBZ like a lot of people when I was younger, but I stopped watching them as I got older. Some years down the line I was on a porn site (keep in mind I had an attraction to animated female characters already, like Disney characters) and came across a hentai called Koihime. This was my first experience with hentai and I loved it. I tried googling for more and came across something unrelated to that hentai: it was the first season of an anime series adapted from the VN Koihime Musou. I watched the first episode and was like holy shit this is awesome (I was probably 13 or 14 at the time). I watched the whole series and learned about anime, and my interest for it started there; I discovered more series and now I've watched lots.

I am on the crossroads for which it was...was either Robotech rips I watched as a young kid...or Gundam Wing, which I watched and recorded for a girl in highschool. Both excellent to me till this day.

The first anime I watched was My Neighbor Totoro, but the anime that got me into watching anime as a hobby was Dragon Ball.

When I was born, Dad put on shows like Sailor Moon, Initial-D, and Cardcaptor Sakura on for me. In 3rd grade I watched Inuyasha, Naruto, and .hack; anything on YTV (Canadian Cartoon Network) after 10pm. But I think I really got into anime in about grade 7, when I went back to Vietnam. I saw Shakugan No Shana and Hayate No Gotoku and instantly fell in love.

I watched the first season of Pokemon as a little kid when it still aired on TV, but I didn't know what anime was at the time. I just thought Pokemon was a regular cartoon, so it wasn't until later when I was in 4th grade that I got into manga/anime. It was either DBZ, Yu Yu Hakusho, or Inuyasha that got me into manga since I started reading them at around the same time. From there, I started watching Inuyasha on Adult Swim and all the other anime that aired along with it.
