As for part a) True enough, your right there. As for part b) I don't think that hit's the point. Truth to be told, it was just the way things developed. It is nothing to thank America for in general, but the inventions were done by the persons named. So much for generalization. As for WW II, yes, your country did do a good bunch of good things, but as before it is a "What if" thing. If you wouldn't name yourself "Americans" you would probably be British and still a colony by now :P


However PersonDude, seems like we missed each other somewhere along the path. I wasn't blaming the celebrities for scientology. I am blaming the law that a, let's call it "dubious" organization like that can work like it does. On that note: Celebrity or not, no person is warded against stupidity, so if they fall for it it is their own problem.

As for the general celebrity consensus: I think I wasn't trying to criticize you with what I said. I was trying to point out that due to the large amount of different cultures and mentalities it is only natural that your nation spreads way more "messages" and has a greater influence than others. It just so happens that due to the media, things often get across in a different way than it was meant to be.

Regarding German politics: The SPD and CDU story is a bit worn out by now. Yes, they are the two major parties, however the others have a large influence aswell. I for one rather vote for a "minor" party that is doing what it promised and that I find more agreeable with my own opinions, rather than a large party where my own opinion is met to only 15%. Also the balance in political power is currently shifting in Germany.

@PersonDude: Well, there are problems with corruption, but the main problem is that there is close to 0 proof except for the testimony of the one who tried to leave.

Anyways, back on topic: As I said before, I met many nice people from the states that are a pleasure to talk to :). I guess the problem is that changing your current system is somewhat of a Sisyphus task, which in the end is also caused by the lowered standards of schools etc. I sincerely hope that you'll be able to escape from that circle.

The fact he's calling you dumb is because your making uneducated accusations in the Serious Discussions thread. He never called you out for being anti-American, he did so because you just brashly without making an argument, called him out on how bad his country without point out a problem and said it bluntly. Please don't make Americans look bad by blindly rushing in without thinking about how the argument is going to turn out.

Our education is so fucking stupid because of the fact that it's so hard to fire teachers that have tenure. They just keep the stupid teachers who just teach us directly from the text book and we don't get those passionate teachers who actually WANT us to learn something. School is just a chore now , and if they replaced the horrible teachers with better ones - It's likely that America would get better.

By the way, Lightning - Waar didn't say anything that horrible. Seriously, I read another post here that was way worse then Waar's post about Americans. He is entitled to his own opinion, just like you are. He might come off like an asshole, but he isn't. Plus his arguments aren't ignorant. Our education system sucks. That's why they put in effect the 'No Child left behind Act'.
