Series Summary
Amidst a popular online role playing game in the near future, characters try to play out the goals they set for entertainment and passing of time. The World as the RPG is called is one with a setting of monsters, player characters and dungeons. Tsukasa is a detached and introverted character that has a number of mysteries about his player character. Many weird happenings seem to suround Tsukasa and his involvement in a rare item called 'The Key Of The Twilight' sparks Tsukasa'a meeting with different online characters and the befriending of their real life counterparts; All without ever meeting face to face in reality. What is strange about Tsukasa is that he can't seem to log out of The World. Subaru and Silver Knight of The Crimson Knights continue to look for proof of why Tsukasa can not log out or the existance of The Key Of The Twilight. Meanwhile Bear, Mimiru, and BT as Tsukasa's friends try to help him understand who he really is and how he can return to the real world.

Since there are a couple people who haven't tried this show yet I have to warn you its very dialoge heavy. If you think it talks to much just skip a little ahead
Also funny story about how I found this show... When it first came to American TV someone forget who talked about some weird show with naked girls... I of course wanted to see naked girls and didn't know about the internet at the time :D So I stayed up and watched the show only to find the naked girls weren't really naked (I suppose they were talking about the intro) and yeah I liked what I saw so I kept on watching more of it and yeah... It went off the air so I bought it with my friend and bla bla bla
This is by far one of my favorite anime series. I've played most of the games and wet myself and cut myself simultaneously when I heard about the .hack MMO (It was only available in some Asian land and had long been shutdown.) I have yet read any of the mangas and I haven't been able to finish .hack//GU. I haven't been able to due to how bad it is, nothing to do with free time. I just decided to watch the show for a FOURTH TIME! [size=10]The first time I saw it me and my friend watched it on TV... Years later I bought the DVDs and watched them... Later I watched it online and made AMVs for it... and now I'm watching it with subs so I could see how all the characters sounded originally![/h] This show really is perfect IMO... There are a couple shows that try to do the whole 'inside a video-game' thing but they all crash and burn in my eyes. No matter how small a role Balmung had in .hack//sign (and yes I suppose you could even argue he didn't have a role at all :p) he has captured my heart as the coolest anime character ever... I mean hell I even read about him and found out how awesome he is with info that isn't said in the series :p Like how he got his wings.
...but yeah this series is truly godly... It stands out from all the other seasons. This was a real experience (let me finish) all the other seasons were fluff and loli characters and humor. This show was the best. I think it has the best soundtrack out of any anime I've watched, I even bought the CD so yeah that was another driving factor mood music. It had the worst ending though. I'll never forgive them. Sora was the best and they made him into a crying little boy WTF?! Oh yeah and the dance sequence was pretty gay as well...
I'm waiting on the edge of my seat for the next game by the way ^_^ .hack//Link can't wait to see how it turns out
I got a lol' outta this. The very start anyway. Since the link is dead its ".hack//gift" and it'd be the begining with ma' boy BALMUNG OF THE AZURE SKY!

Only person I was disappointed with is Sora which I mentioned earlier. Everytime I saw him I said to myself "Thats totally me. Dead-on how I would act in The World!" and then the bomb drops and I'm embarrased.
Also if I was Tsukasa I would probably level up ya know? The moment I got my Guardian I'd go to the highest level dungeon and get the best gear and become a crazy PKer :D Thats like my... dream :D
Spoiler:
Edit: ep. 3 english subs at 8:00 the key of the twilight girl is asking him to fuck her xD I never remember her saying that in the english dubs

I was majorly into this anime when it first came out. Actually, it's what inspired me to start playing MMOs (though I admit that I was slightly disappointed that real MMOs weren't like The World :D). A lot of people were turned off by how little action there was in the whole series, but it made sense if you viewed the series for what it was meant to be.
I can't say that I was disappointed by any part of this series. The whole thing was interesting and entertaining for me. Of course I wished there were more about what the players were like in real life, but there's only so much time in an anime series for information. Besides, that would have been besides the point that the writers were trying to make.
As for Sora,
The .hack game series was pretty good, too, though a bit too long, I think. they should have knocked it down to two games. They really put a lot of thought and effort into them, though. It was cool seeing how the games affected "real life". .hack//LIMINALITY was interesting, as well. I didn't like how disjointed it was with large gaps and new character introductions being completely overlooked, but it was still a good series.
Everything after that, unfortunately, was a travesty; just another attempt a capitalizing on a fad. That Legend of the Twilight Bracelet crap was just terrible. I've heard mixed things about .hack//G.U. and the anime that went along with it. I had seen some of the anime when it was on Cartoon Network, but honestly I couldn't get into it. I think they should have stopped while they were ahead.
Also, for those that are interested, the novels are all quite good. //A.I. Buster and //Another Birth are all recommended.

Indeed, .hack//SIGN was a pretty good anime if you're looking for character development. It introduced me to the .hack world(s) and to the music of Yuji Kajiura.
Irony there is that CN stopped airing ROOTS in the middle of the series. The Twilight Bracelet anime was bad, the manga was fine though. .hack//G.U. took everything that was good about IMOQ, and improved it, but the side quests were repetitive and dull.

Sigh, seeing this anime makes me remembered how cute Aura was. In G.U. and Hack series she becomes rather emo. Where is my Aura went to!!!

hoping Link would get animated too
Sign was my first encounter on .hack// and i liked the idea of people getting trapped in a game and saving the game and the whole world by just waking a sleeping girl, though got to admit tsukasa was a trap

Cmon.it's impossible for less people to have seen this Game to Anime made.I mean surely .Hack players out there already might have seen this. This was also aired in Animax Phillippines 1 year after Animax was 1st broadcasted.
Anyways.Surely i would like to live in a world like that.2 bad that if my body die in the real world then i'm totally dead in the game.
ahahaha.
Also the story just simply can't stop there.
We got .Hack//Roots which showed Kite(Main Character in the PS2 Game) to be the enemy.
