Carnage released.

Not as pretty as the other ones but that's the point, very straightforward compared to the last three.

1984 meets Eden of the East. Drafts like these deserve an anime.

In regards to Ibuseki Yoruni, the overt message is that future, Mirai, (or progress) is a whore, the implicit message is that the past, pre-1945, traditional values in Japan, is best girl.

What good is all that rebellion and patriotism when the youth forsakes its past, its pride, its identity?

Nobody can see the future, except perhaps some foreign powers wishing to use this false myth of the future to create a false rebellion. They can be Chinese, Americans, they can be whoever you want. To right wingers in Japan, foreigners only see them as a piece in a chess game.

But they won't be Japanese, because the Japanese nationalists will be looking at their country's past.

What happens to the protagonist is a metaphor for what is happening to the country (also shown on screen), i.e. castrated and no longer able to have children which corresponds to the declining birth rate in Japan.

The faceless dictator is this image of the future that has been imprinted in the rebels' mind. Democracy is an illusion and the short even directly states that enlightened public never existed, merely useful pawns.

You know the director is right wing? He wants a return of pre-1945 values to Japan. Well I'll make the thought process even simpler for you:

Future = Progress = Left wing = Foreign = Bad

Past = Conservation = Right Wing = Traditionalism/Nativism = Good

The next couple of years will be crucial for Japan. With an aging population and China starting to stir to their west, things are going to change for the Japanese like it or not. For example, Prime Minister Abe has been pushing for a proper military instead of the current defense force.

A lot to digest if you know about current Japanese politics, especially with the right wing.

Right? The same people who are doing the NGE:Rebuilds are in charge of these animations so the quality skyrockets, of course there is room for intellectual debate(well Hideaki Anno is guest of honor of Anima(tor)'s Exhibition) but just being here to watch cool shit or get your jam on is more than enough.

Also Anima(tor)'s Exhibition have announced an extension to their originally planned 30 animations, so maybe we will have an Anime Mirai going on and these IPs will get picked up into actual adaptations in the future.
