The characters in Naruto don't call each other by their last names.
Ex: Hinata would say Uzumaki-kun instead of Naruto-kun.

But what about Neji and them. Naruto and friends just met them and started calling them by their first name.

y'know i never noticed that...but maybe since naruto's so fucking rude all the time everyone else decided to follow his lead and call everyone by first names.
