Opening credits that are better than the actual series

How often does this happen to you? When sitting down and watching and anime, when it's done, after thinking about it, the the opening and/or the ending credits to the series proved to be better than the actual series itself. It kind of happens, when things start rolling with the opening and you're enjoying them, you've already to make up you're own little story in thinking how things are going to play out, and how things would look great to have happen, but by the time the show is over these things don't happen. :(

Presentation is important wouldn't you agree? If you make something look enough you could get someone to buy it without it really living up to what it's made out to be. It will be better if the product is decent, but, you should know what I'm getting at.

For an example, as far as first impressions go, the TV series El Hazard Wanderers would be good for this.

The opening for this series always felt better than the actual series itself, the wanderers. They should have done half the number of episode they done, use the extra money to improve the animation, and spent more time on the story, even so the opening for wanderers is still better than was made for the original Ova series. With the some of the character in this, when you first see the castle and land of the Bugrom, at first glance looking at it you get the impression that they technologically advanced, they're home really does have that techno organic look to it, doesn't it?

Heh, El Hazard, it was the second anime I ever watched.

Mmm, most shonen openings are pretty decent, but I usually don't like the story. Naruto, Bleach, D.Grayman, ect ect.

The series that was most disappointing that had a kickass opening, to me, was the Burst Angel OVA. The opening had nothing to do with the OVA...Although, I haven't seen the other epi's, hopefully it will redeem itself.

This is likely deliberate. TVTropes calls it "bait and switch credits". They even use el-hazard OVA as an example.

fair bit of warning: TVtropes is addictive, and might ruin your enjoyment of some shows.

I saw that OVA and I was like YAY! 2nd series of Burst angel, only to be horribly disapointed. I was so looking forward to it too :(.
