I watched in broadcast order. It tends to build things up nicely in my opinion.

Which one is better to watch first?

If I were you, I'd watch it in broadcast order first. It'll be confusing at first, but then it grows on you.

Hm Hm *nods at agreement* it will be more interesting watching the broadcast order. You will see eventually.

I'd watch broadcast order *inserts what DarkAxz says*
I'm actually finishing up and it would make you want to watch it chronologically afterwards.

I watched it broadcast order first. Honestly though, I think I woulda preferred watching it chronologically first, but maybe that's just me.

I started watching it in the broadcast order until the island episode which was 2 parts, where I switched to chronological. And until 2 months ago I always thought the finale was the episode where they kiss x_x

Also David, I'm not sure if you noticed but your avatar has a little (what looks like) chat bubble thing on the right side which aligns with your posts. I like that, and I could probably set it up so that looks like its an actual chat bubble from your avatar. :D

no offense meant but i heard it majorly sucked in chronological order and that the broadcast order was, quote, "The Shit."

Broadcast order is ridiculous. The light novels were not arranged in that order (in other words, the broadcast order was not how the writer meant them to be in). The chronological order is closer to the order of the novels (in other words, its closer to how it was meant to be seen).

Watching it in broadcast order completely ruins the "revelation" that was the hallmark of the first light novel. That is, Kyon was slowly introduced to the idea of Haruhi being supernatural, something finally accepted in that episode where they kiss (which was in the end of the first book and early in the school year). After that event, nearly all Kyon's actions/decisions are dictated by that knowledge. Broadcast order fucks this up completely, and I can't help but feel that this is like hollywood fucking up a novel that gets turned into a movie because the producer/director thinks he knows more than the writer does. They probably thought having Kyon kiss Haruhi would make a final great scene to the first season. Cinematically it probably does, but this implies that Kyon's romantic feelings for haruhi were building up through the series -- when the exact opposite was what was happening (his feelings were building up for Mikuru; midway through the year during the shooting for episode 0 Kyon nearly hit Haruhi and had to be restrained by Koisumi). Also, Haruhi is supposed to be happier as the series progresses -- the episode where they kiss is supposed to start the change in Haruhi from melancholic (as seen in episode 1) to a genki girl (as supposed to be seen in the episodes after).

tl;dr -- broadcast order is not the order the story is supposed to unfold.

Wow, Thank you. this series sounds good and i'm going to watch it in chronological order. fatman either you're a genius or just so damn lucky that you put down random intelligent words and they formed an intelligent opinion. again, thank you.

In truth, I saw the series first in broadcast order (I didn't know anything about the series, so I didn't know it was broadcasted that way). Me and my sister found it disappointing, especially since some early episodes spoiled the later ones.

It was like Homer Simpson going "Wow, who knew Darth Vader was Luke's father!" while waiting in line for the premier showing of Empire Strikes Back.

Then I read the books, and watched the series again, this time chronologically. I vastly enjoyed it more, since that was how the original writer meant it (more or less, the novels themselves jump in time a lot, but at least you won't see a story being cut by another story mid-way, as broadcast order does). I'm not even sure how they're going to explain away season 2 (since the broacast order in season 1 implies that Kyon and Haruhi have stepped up their relationship), when its Mikuru he's pining for even up to novel #9 (and presumably season 3).

I think that was Peter from Family Guy.
