Dipping into the Bavel backlog

This isn't a big announcement or anything like that, but I still wanted to give you a small update on this topic.

First, some background information: in the middle of 2019, two of the magazines we publish—X-Eros and Shitsurakuten—went bi-monthly, and Europa relaunched as Dascomi. At the time, we weren't sure what this would mean for us, but we decided to add the quarterly Comic Aoha to the main lineup to make up for it. Now that we have a year of releases behind us, we have a better grasp of the situation. The flow of data is highly irregular given that none of these magazines are monthly, but roughly speaking, we receive around half of a smallish magazine's worth of content less on an average month.

While this has not affected the release output (the amount of new content made available each day), the reduced input of content (what we get from the publishers) means we're eventually going to run low of chapters to release. However, the gap isn't large enough to justify us picking up a brand new magazine. We also don't know how much of an impact the ongoing pandemic has had on this, and it's possible all magazines will bulk up in size next year.

So with all that said, our best solution for now is to dip into the Comic Bavel backlog. For starters, that means releasing the remaining volumes from 2017 that predates our acquisition of the magazine. The plan is to release them roughly in order, starting with the January issue and keep going until the May issue. I expect this will keep us occupied for the rest of the year, and then we'll reevaluate the situation and decide on our next step.

In summary, you'll start seeing content from Bavel 2017 sprinkled in among with the regular releases, with the first handful of chapter already out. Newer chapters from current magazines will still be a priority whenever possible, as we don't want to fall behind on those. Finally, this gives us a nice opportunity to bring back some authors who aren't as active anymore—typically because artists often go on an extended hiatus after a book release. Hopefully you'll get to see some old favorites pop up again in the next few months, or just enjoy more content from still active artists.

Check out the first releases below:
Twins Harassment by Oouso | Innocent Couple by Nokin | High School Hole in the Wall by yumoteliuce | Twin Healing by Asamine Tel

Excellent news, truly. More of the old Koh chapters would be appreciated as well if you end up wondering what to do next.

I'm always happy to see some of the rich veins of older releases being mined.

But, a couple of questions:

1) Will we also get high-res covers for those old Bavel releases, like normally posted to https://www.fakku.net/forums/books/magazine-covers?

2) Is the Aoha Fall release behind in getting material? Based on prior releases I was kind of expecting it to see stories start popping out in September, and now that it's October I was wondering if it was another unfortunate victim of pandemic and/or overload issues. But the appearance of Bavel 2017-01 material, and now this post, suggests that at least it wasn't a FAKKU workload issue.

Yes, the first three covers should be added tomorrow!

2) Is the Aoha Fall release behind in getting material?

The data should be on its way, but we haven't received it yet, no.

Just another question, if you still happen to be watching this thread: do you intend to post copies of the stories that were originally only posted as part of book releases? For example https://www.fakku.net/hentai/im-an-oni-but-still-a-girl-english is from Bavel 2017-01 but is just part of the Monster Smash release, so you can only access it if you bought a copy of that book. Do you plan to post a copy of the story for people with an Unlimited subscription?

We're not planning on doing that currently.

How do you feel this experiment has gone? Was its as much of a headache getting license permission from the authors as it is in my head lol

I would personally say back catalogue dipping is perhaps a safer and better received method to expand content than license more magazines esp of if your dipping into catalogues of the more popular magazines (though there is of course the consideration that is a magazine focuses more on certain genres lesser featured in general in the main publications it may draw a new audience to the site - after Girls for M was dropped citing low interest that feels a long shot though).

Going forward next time do you think its likely you will be digging deeper into say Bavel archives or will you perhaps look into other magazine catalogues you have access to here at Fakku like say Comic Koh? Either way thanks for the hard work and the dedication to retain the same amount of output of content despite unusual circumstances as i dont think anyone would have kicked up a stick even if you had chosen to not dip into the catalogue here so its very much appreciated.

Reviving old thread...

I noticed some stuff popping up from Bavel 2016-01 now, so it looks like that part of the backlog is being moved onto now? Are 2017-01 to 2017-05 as done as they're going to be done, or should we also expect the little missing bits and pieces of those to be finished up later on as well?

Now that some time has passed, I can say it's very convenient having a backup magazine like old Bavel. There's no pressure on us to release it, and we can simply tap into it when we're low on current data and need something else to work on. If we had the resources to do an entire extra magazine each month, we'd most likely pick up a brand new publication. While we're still just supplementing our regular lineup with a few chapters here and there, I think we'll stick to the backlog content available to us.

Everything is done on our end, and all that remains unreleased are a few color and non-h shorts. Those are basically just waiting for a release slot, but current magazine releases take priority over those in the schedule. Although, I've thought about throwing them in as extras, as we're not really at risk of running out of new content anytime soon, so they might show up sooner rather than later.

That makes sense, it was just that when I saw stuff from 2016 popping up I was a bit surprised since I would've thought finishing off the 2017 backlog first would've taken priority. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter, released material is released material, I was just wondering if it was a signal that the remaining bits of the 2017 were unavailable for some reason (which did seem unlikely given that it included stuff like some Honomi Break! shorts, but you never know).

I also thought that there were a few missing full stories, but then digging into what I thought was missing it turned out to be three book stories that were just never linked to their corresponding magazine issues when the magazine backlog was opened up.
